PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Professor, Cedar Crest College, Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences, Allentown, PA, August, 2002 to present (Assistant Professor until April, 2008; Associate Professor until April, 2016). Director of FEPAC-accredited undergraduate Forensic Science program (since 2002) and Director of FEPAC-accredited Master of Science in Forensic Science program (since 2007). Responsibilities include all administrative and teaching duties associated with the forensic science programs. Teaching includes lecture and laboratory instruction in crime scene reconstruction and pattern analysis, trace evidence analysis and microscopy, forensic molecular biology and population statistics, graduate thesis preparation, and legal and ethical aspects in forensic science. Other responsibilities include developing undergraduate and graduate research programs, a coordinated internship program with participating laboratories, and directing a continuing education institute for forensic science and criminal justice professionals.
World Trade Center Forensic Molecular Biology Consultant, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Department of Forensic Biology, New York City, April, 2002 to August, 2002. Reviewed DNA typing data obtained from vendor laboratories for World Trade Center victims and families and made recommendations to scientific staff with respect to the identification of missing victims. Performed administrative review of kinship analysis. Reviewed quality assurance data to ensure that vendor laboratories performed laboratory operations properly. Prepared written reports when quality assurance data were not within specifications, and advised on resolution of discrepancy.
Assistant Professor, California State University at Los Angeles, Department of Criminal Justice. September, 2001 to March, 2002. Lectured to undergraduates and graduate students in areas of criminalistics and crime scene investigation. Instructed students in laboratory exercises. Advisor for graduate students in criminalistics with emphasis on research and professional development.
Forensic Scientist, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Department of Forensic Biology, New York City. January 1990 to August 2001. Supervised daily operation of ASCLD-LAB accredited forensic biology laboratory. Reviewed casework from laboratory analysts. Conducted method validation and research. Department quality control and assurance coordinator until August, 1998. Provided expert testimony in criminal court proceedings in New York City. Served as laboratory liaison with the New City Police Department and District Attorneys’ Offices. Trained subordinate forensic analysts, including preparation of courtroom testimony. Lectured on forensic biology topics to student, law enforcement, and scientific groups. Passed external proficiency tests in conventional serology, RFLP, HLA-DQA1/PM, and STR PCR typing methodologies including capillary electrophoresis. Performed casework analyses using concentional STR and YSTR typing
