We invite those who have gained strength and resilience to walk with others and inspire them to become empowered and self-determining.Our ModelThe Safe Futures Foundation has successfully developed and implemented an alternative to the traditional response that waits until a crisis point has been reached. The model expands referral from traditional sources to include organisations that are the first to recognise the indicators of violence in the home, often even before individuals identify their experience as violence. Rights and needs of children are paramount. The response is open to all those who have experienced violence in the home or identify they are at risk. The response is premised on a triage approach with comprehensive assessment of safety and support needs, and direct accesses to responses and resources ranging from safety strategies and immediate necessities through to therapeutic, educational and wellbeing programs. Identification of family violence impacting on women and children accessing the open door service Undertake relevant training and secondary case management for Wesley Open Door staff and identified clientsUndertake comprehensive risk assessments for women identified as at risk of harm due to family violence and develop a safety plan.Provision of daily case management support to women, and children, at further risk of family violence, including allocation of women as a safe in community clientDevelop and monitor appropriate case and safety plans for each woman and individual child ensuring that clients are actively engaged in the planning and decision-making processProvide ongoing support, advocacy, information, early intervention/crisis counselling and referral to clientsLiaise / coordinate with other service providers regarding client case plansAdvocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to relevant services related to domestic violence, health, mental health, income security, drug and alcohol, legal, indigenous, cultural and language, disability, counselling and housing supportKnowledge and experience to work with women and children with specific needs including: Culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including competency in the use of interpreters and telephone interpreters for people who have:Indigenous backgroundsDisabilityDrug and / or alcohol dependencyMental health issuesSexual diversity.Key Selection CriteriaKnowledge, skills and abilities required to fulfil the roleA capacity and ability to demonstrate Safe Futures’ Core Capabilities is required to be successful in the role. The RoleThe Women’s Advocate -Safe Futures Foundation will be responsible for:Working within the Wesley Homelessness Open Door program to assist staff to identify and respond to women experiencing family violence who approach the open door for assistance.Provide training in responding to family violence to the Wesley staffProviding support to women and their children experiencing family violenceActively participating in the community development activities of the servicePerformance of other duties as required provided such duties are within the range of the employee’s skills, competency and trainingThe worker may be part of a team on the on-call rosterThe Women’s Advocate is required to meet a range of outcomes and deliverables which align with the Safe Futures Strategic Plan.
