As part of the lead up to the Olympic Games a ‘fun run’ is being organised to raise funds for junior athletes. The event will be run over part of the marathon course. The run is to be held 100 days prior to the Olympic opening and is named ‘The Olympic 100 Run’.

To enter the event, competitors needed to complete an official entry form and post it prior to the race. Each competitor is allocated a number and this is posted to each person one week before the run. Each competitor pays a $15 entry fee.

To help raise extra funds a variety of promotional clothing is available at the following prices:

• T-shirts $18

• Windcheaters $30

• Caps $10

• Singlets $14

• Shorts $24

Competitors need to order their clothing when they fill in their entry form.

Competitor and clothing information (a small selection) is contained in a text file named OLYMP100.TXT

A sample of the data in this file is given below. (in table form). Note the data in this file is in text format but is the order as shown below. Each field in the file is separated by a comma.

Use all of the above information to do the following:

1. Import the data into some suitable database format. (3)

2. Add a new field called ‘RaceID’. This field will contain each competitors race number. (1)

3. Allocate each competitor a number, starting from 5400. (1)

4. Print a copy of the information, sorted by sname, showing all the information in the database. Make sure your name is in the header and ensure that all the information fits on one page. (3)

5. Save the file. (0)

6. Use your word processor to create form letters to each competitor to advise them of their number. Print a copy of the letter below showing the mail merge placeholders only. (4)

7. Use the mail merge facility to print letters to those competitors who live in the suburb with the postcode (pcode) 5098. (2)

9. Enter formulae that will show the total number of each clothing item ordered. (1)

10. Enter formulae that will show the total amount due for each clothing item. (2)

11. Enter a formula that will show the total income for the fun run including competitors entry fee and clothing orders. (2)

12. Make sure that your data and calculations fit onto one page, add your name to the header and print. (3)

13. Print another copy of your spreadsheet as in part 11, however, this time showing the formulae you used. (1)
