Tryout Clinics: Monday, May11 - Wednesday, May 13

4:30 – 6:30 PM

Final Tryout: Thursday, May 14

4:30PM - Approx. 6:30 PM

Tryout Clinics and Final Tryouts will be held in the OCHS Main Gymnasium

The 2015-16 cheerleading squad members will be posted on the balcony doors and on the OC Cheer web site ()

the morning of April 15th.

OCHS Cheerleading’s primary focus is promoting school spirit first and foremost. If your daughter’s primary reason for trying out for OCHS cheerleading is strictly the competitive aspect we would like to suggest you look at a competitive cheerleading program at a private gym where that is solely their emphasis.

TEAM SELECTION:

All cheerleaders must attend each clinic date. It is mandatory in order to make one of the OCHS cheerleading squads unless previous arrangements have been made with the coaches.

Positions on the roster are not guaranteed based on the previous year’s squad. There are many facets to an athlete making either of the squads. Some facets are weighted with more importance than others, but the final decision is based on who works best for the squad. Attitude is very important; especially positive ones. We need cheerleaders to have a positive attitude about their teammates, practice, community service and the coaching staff. Other important attributes that will be evaluated are as follows:

← Tumbling Skills

← Stunting Skills

← Jumps

← Position – Back Spot, Main Base, Secondary Base, Flyer

← Motions/Technique

← Dance Technique - approx. 45 second dance learned at the clinic

← Communication Skills – Voice, Facial, Expression, Confidence

← Prior year athletic and academic commitment

← Composed of 16-32 members, grades 9-12

← Determined by positions and breaks in scores

← Cheerleaders will cheer for ALL home AND away Varsity football games

← Cheerleaders will cheer for ALL home & away football games and all girls and boys basketball games

← Squad members are also REQUIRED to represent their school at local public relations activities as well as many OCHS Cheerleading fundraisers

← The cheer squad also will compete during our competition season beginning November 2015 through March 2016.

← The cheer squad may also have an opportunity to compete at the National Championships in February 2016 in Orlando, FL or at CanAm Nationals in March 2016 in Myrtle Beach, SC if they qualify. Please note that this event will cost each cheerleader approximately $1000.00 to attend (includes airfare, hotel and competition registration). You will have the opportunity to fundraise to cover the entire event. This is optional, however, if you choose not to attend, you MUST notify the coaches immediately after the squads are announced.

We would like to make you aware of the serious time commitment involved in cheerleading should your daughter be selected for one of the cheer squads. Please keep in mind practices will begin in the summer and will continue through March.

← PHYSICALS:

o Physicals are needed every other year and are needed for every incoming freshman. Anyone needing a physical will need to have a green physical form filled out by their doctor and turned into the cheer coach prior to tryouts. If you have any questions about the physicals, they can be directed to the Athletic Secretary, Connie Jerominski, at 768-6210.

← ATHLETIC CODE:

o OCHS recognizes cheerleading as a sport. Cheerleaders receive athletic awards after successfully completing the entire cheerleading season.

o All members of the squads will be required to read and sign the OCHS Athletic Code. The Athletic Code is a set of rules set forth by the Oak Creek School District for all school athletes to follow. This Athletic Code is in addition to the OCHS Cheer Code of Conduct. The Athletic Code is found on the OCHS web site, however, will be handed out by the coaches to all squad members. The Athletic Code is to be handed in to the coaches who will, in turn, turn them in for the entire squad to the OCHS office.

← ATTENDANCE:

o Cheerleaders must attend scheduled practices, assigned athletic events, scheduled competitions, pep assemblies and scheduled fundraisers.

o A job conflict will not be allowed as an excuse for missing practices, games or events.

o Please schedule all appointments outside of scheduled events. All misses must be excused prior to the event

o All cheerleaders must attend school for the entire day of class periods in order to practice or participate in a game or competition (valid excuses are ok)

← PRACTICES:

o All practices are held in the OCHS Balcony
