|Conditions Mandatory: |

|An Australian National Police Check will be required before the commencement of employment |

|Complete on-line “fire induction program” training |

Organisational Context

Georgina Martina Inc. (GMI) is a community based organisation which operates a state-wide family violence support and accommodation service including two high security refuges – Georgina and Martina. The organisation is committed to a feminist Strength based approach to service delivery that views women as the experts in their own lives. GMI promotes the safety and wellbeing of all women and children: disabled, culturally and linguistically diverse and the inclusion and empowerment of aboriginal children, their families and communities. GMI are committed to the safety and well-being of children and have zero tolerance to child abuse of any form.

Both Martina and Georgina refuges are high security crisis accommodations, ensuring women and children experiencing family violence can feel safe.

The organisation operates an outreach support service for women and children who have moved on from high security accommodation. We maintain a number of properties for longer-term support and work closely with mainstream housing services to ensure appropriate exit points from the service.

Primary Objectives of the Position

Within the parameters of the constitution, service philosophy and the policy framework, and under the direction and supervision of Team Leader, the “Case Manager” will provide Family Violence Support and Advocacy to the Women and Children (our clients) in our care and will:

• Provide a crisis response and support service to women and children who have experienced and are escaping family violence

• Assist women to determine their options, identify relevant service pathways and advocate for required support for women and their children

• Respond to family violence and abuse as criminal acts against women and children: mandatory reporting of Child Abuse to relevant authorities (Child Protection, police)

• Contribute ideas and feedback in the ongoing quality improvement of Georgina Martina

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide a crisis response, support and advocacy service to women and children experiencing family violence

• To provide intensive Case Management : Initial Risk assessment and review, development of case plans, referral to appropriate external supports, holistically address all area of women’s and children’s needs (emotional, psychological, material, training, employment, recreational, legal, cultural), planned exit to alternate housing and link with external support services (as required).

• On arrival, ensure all school age children in our care are linked into school and that younger children are linked into child care (if eligible) so that children’s social engagement and education is not disrupted and that women have the time to address their issues.

• Ensure children are linked to recreational activities over school holidays (school or council run holiday programs, hobbies, zoo outings etc.), to increase social and engagement and resilience.

• To work collaboratively with the service users of Georgina Martina Inc. in a respectful manner and with dignity and sensitivity to enable them to identify their needs and priorities

• To assist service users in assessing their priorities and appropriate service pathways, in the context of their immediate and medium term safety and support needs

• To assist, in conjunction with service users and other Georgina Martina Inc. staff, in forming achievable case plans that best suit the identified needs of the service user

• To liaise, communicate and act in an advocacy role with a range of agencies on behalf of the service user in a manner that optimizes her access to support and positive outcomes.

• To contribute to the organisation via active participation in staff and case management meetings and service development sessions

• To attend any meetings and networks which are deemed relevant to the position

• To assist in the collation, update and maintenance of resource files and databases (SHIP).

• To maintain professional standards of service user file notes and data base

• To attend and participate in regular relevant professional development and training as directed

• To participate in any ongoing internal evaluations, organisational activities, performance reviews

• Participate in the collation of resourcing

• Contribute to a positive team dynamic and work environment

• Understanding and application of relevant legislation including; Equal Opportunity, Child Safe Standards, OHS, Privacy and Health records legislation

• Take reasonable care of your own health and the safety of others - other staff or/& clients who may be affected by your conduct or actions

• Contribute actively to a safe workplace by ensuring all safety issues are reported and addressed as they arise: whole of agency has a duty of care.

• Actively participate in training as directed & required (fire drill, CPR, internal OH&S) proactively seek out development opportunities to ensure knowledge is current.

• Take an active role in service planning and development and continued quality improvement,

assist with document control and other quality improvements: identify and report

• Any other duties as directed by the Line Manager that are reasonable, and are in accordance with the service philosophies, meet health and safety standards and are necessary for the general operation of Georgina Martina Inc.

Supervision

The incumbent is required to engage in formal internal supervision to support accountability processes (adherence to code of practice and child safe standards) as well as peer support and external supervision and professional development as directed by the Team Leader.

Performance Appraisal

The incumbent is required to participate in an annual formal performance appraisal and any other appraisal systems as directed by the Team Leader /CEO.

Qualifications

1. Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or community services and/or substantial relevant experience and expertise in the provision of a family violence response (including demonstrated appropriate behaviours when engaging with woman and children). .

2. Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to gain one).

3. Current Australian Driving License- Mandatory

Key Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and its impact on women and children.

2. A demonstrated understanding of the specific issues for women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are affected by family violence

3. Experience working with children or demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging children

4. Demonstrated skills, ability and experience in complex assessment and case management with women and their children who are escaping family violence

5. An excellent understanding of feminist frameworks and perspectives and the ability to apply these to the practices of the organisation

6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a challenging environment

7. Appropriate skills and willingness to participate in ongoing quality improvement

8. Well demonstrated written and computer literacy skills

9. High level interpersonal and communication skills, advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

10. Preparedness to work across multiple sites and outreach

11. This role requires you to be available for after hours on-call, on rotating a roster system and as required.
