George StreetCommunity CouncilSecretary Tel: 01224 635 76434 Jamaica St E-mail; GeorgeStreetCC@ABERDEENAB25 3XAMinutes from Tuesday 8 March 2011.Present; Andy, Michele, Trina, Vera, Councillor Andy May (left 8.05 pm), Tom Bruce, Sheila Dean, Philip Barrat, Kerry Adam, and Lin WoodVisitor; Shona Gossip and Sergeant Matt Smith (left 8.45 pm).Apologies; Jim Hunter and John Stewart.Andy May – a short discussion was had on the following subjects before Andy had to leave.Parking gates on tenants’ car park took so long to get fixed as a part had not come in as the firm had gone bust. Tenants will be reimbursed for times when parking was not secure. It may be possible to look at re-allocating bike parking spaces to car spaces on St Andrews St.They are losing a Community Learning Devt person at Seamount Ct, this will impact on the youth groups. There are plans to make the whole of Scotland one Fire Brigade; we were concerned about this proposal and the loss of local knowledge which can be crucial in an emergency. We would be concerned that the service would not be as effective under one Brigade. The Council are moving towards selling Causewayend School. There are sofas dumped on St Andrew’s St – we will contact Stephen Shaw in cleansing. Some Tobies are missing on Fraser Rd, the wee square ones. When Berryden Junction was resurfaced they put the white lines back in the wrong places.PoliceLast month’s minutes had March’s Police Stats report by mistake, sorry about that.Housebreakings were up slightly in February, the Police will target this in the area to address this matter. Nightshifts have been particularly lively, even during the week. The weekends are worse as more alcohol is involved. The Police will be trying to foster better relations with kids in the near future; this area is not bad for youth crime but it is always good to have better connections.Loch StThe developers have been in negotiation with NCP car parking to secure places for their development on Loch St, we will want exact terms before we can be happy with this arrangement; need to know that the parking is satisfactory to the tenants and long term, so the situation does not end up putting the surrounding premises at a disadvantage.Student flatsStudent flats behind Spring Gdn have applied to raise one of their buildings and put in an underground car park we will monitor this development as the piling here would have to be done with great sensitivity.3rd Don CrossingTillydrone Comm Council are officially objecting to this. The speaker we contributed to, made his speech of representation but the crossing has been approved. Tillydrone are to fight the approval in court as they believe the proposal is out with the current Local Plan. They would like GSCC to write a letter supporting their position.Catherine St LightingThe lighting still has not been done at Catherine St, we will chase this up.Agenda for 10th May 2011?Police AOCBNext Meeting Tuesday 14th June 2011 7:30pm Catherine Street Community Centre.Police Report George Street Community Council MeetingDate: Tuesday 8 March 2011 Venue/time: Catherine Street Community Centre at 7.30pmOfficer: Insp Norman MacLeanPRIORITY CRIMESThe last meeting of George Street Community Council took place on Tuesday 8 February 2011. The table detailed below provides an analysis of the Quality of Life issues arising over the review period. 8 February – 5 March 2011MOTORCYCLE0DRINKING IN PUBLIC2DRUGS/SUBSTANCE MISUSE2FIRES1PUBLIC NUISANCE4GENERALAs stated crime levels have remained fairly low in comparison to other areas. We have just completed a two day operation which successfully targeted second hand dealers and licensed premises specifically in the George Street area, in relation to stolen property. We have operations again in the pipeline this month for the George Street area, including Operation Maple which targets drug related crime and housebreakings, a drugs operation and a Community Focus operation. Public Nuisance calls are thankfully fairly low for this period.I have also sent a letter out to the Chairman, advising of the need for everyone in the community to be aware of car related crime and be extra vigilant. This also follows on the back of a national drive to make people more aware of crime in their communities after the recent launch of crime mapping in England and Wales.I would remind everyone, as ever, that if anyone does see anything suspicious please report the matter to the Police immediately. I would also reiterate to the community to be security conscious and remember that we do provide a free domestic security survey service to anyone who requests this. Please feel free to approach me or any of my staff with any Policing issues in the area and we will be happy to respond and assist .
