Job DescriptionAccountantPositionAccountantReports toPrincipalHours25 hours per week – across Monday - Friday during term time only (approximately 40 weeks of the year). With some additional hours required in the holiday periods paid by timesheet to manage varying workloads during these periods. Ideally normal working hours will be worked between the hours of 9am – 3.30pm, with a half hour lunch break.TenureThis is a fixed term position until the end of Term two 2021. There is a possibility this role may continue. Key Objective To take responsibility for the management of accounts at Nelson College for Girls across all entities and to specifically support the Principal with the control of Finance and preparation of Management, Board and Annual Financial reports to the satisfaction of the Auditors and in compliance with Ministry of Education guidelines and requirements and the Education Act.Functional RelationshipsPrincipalHeads of Learning Areas and other budget holdersHR Manager Property Manager#Main TaskDetailed Aspects1Financial ManagementPrepare the monthly and annual accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting to the Board.Using Xero and other specific school systems be accountable for the day-to-day accounts of Nelson College for Girls, Preparatory School, Boarding Hostel, Young Parent School. To be responsible for a “transparency and efficiency” review of the accounting processes. This will include data inputting, coding, orders, data collection, outputs etc.Preparation of the Annual Budgets for all entities in liaison with the Principal.To assist in the financial maintenance of the five- and ten-year property plan To maintain oversight and control of the various Trust and Investment Accounts.To provide financial analytical information, ideas, and financial advice to different areas of the school Provide up to date financial reporting to Heads of Learning Areas and support management areas monthly.Prepare financial information and models to help with school business decisions.Reports weekly to the Principal and monthly with the Board Finance sub-committee.Manage the annual audit process.Cash management and forecasting. Bank account management Control of cash flows.Student account management.Maintenance of creditors and debtors.Management of GSTPayroll Reconciliation2Staff ManagementSupervision and management of finance office staff operating with a process improvement focus. Complete appraisals of other finance direct reports.3OtherWorks closely with the Principal in matters involving financial and general administrative management of the College. Where possible develop KPI’s to measure effectiveness of procedures, i.e. timeliness of reports.
