Waitakere Outrigger Canoe Club looks forward to getting your entry for the Waitakere Super 10 races coming up on Saturday 17 July 2010. We are putting on a range of 5k and 10k races to suit all divisions of waka ama paddling. This will be a great day with lots of spot prizes and cash prizes for the top 3 clubs. So get your teams together and come to Hobby!!

The Venue

The race venue is at – Buckley Ave/ Hudson Bay Drive in Hobsonville (Hobby). This is part of the former Hobsonville Airbase, now owned by Hobsonville Land Company who have kindly allowed us to once again use this excellent venue (see location map).

Start Times

You need to be race-registered with your waka ready and safety checked by the race briefing time, which is 30 minutes before your race start time (see above).

The races will start on time, so all crews should be ready on the start line.

Safety

Normal NKOA safety rules apply.

Safety boats will be provided.

Safety requirements will be checked by the officials with the orange jackets. If waka don’t comply, they won’t race.

Race Rules

Start on time and on the line, follow the course and front waka has right of way. Deliberate collision with a waka in front if seen by officials will result in time penalties – watch out for this especially on the turns. No protests.

Prizes

Certificates for place-getters. Lots of spot prizes!!

There will also be cash prizes for the first three clubs. Club Points will be allocated across all races as follows:-

Entries less than 3 1 point

Entries 3 – 5

1st 4 points

2nd 3 points

3rd 2 points

4th/ 5th 1 point

Entries over 5

1st 7 points

2nd 6 points

3rd 5 points

4th 4 points

5th 3 points

All other places 1 point

Note: If there are less than 3 entries in a category, you will be moved into the next category where possible e.g. less than 3 senior masters will move to masters.

There will be no after race meal, but free BBQ sausages and soup will be provided for finishing paddlers at the race venue.

Cost

➢ Intermediate/Junior W6 $5 each paddler, no charge for W1/ W2 if you have paddled in a W6 event, otherwise $5.

➢ Stand-Up Paddle Board $10

➢ Every other division $10 per 10k W6 paddler plus $5 for any W1/ W2 paddler.

➢ No extra charge for mixed W6 if you have already paddled in a men’s or women’s W6 event during the day. Otherwise $5 per paddler.

Pay on the day at registration (but you need to have entered first!!). Having the right change on the day would assist us immensely in keeping your waiting times to a minimum.
