These are Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan, Tunisia and Western Sahara.The surface of this desert is not uniform. It has highlands, plateaus, plains, and basins.The Nile and Niger rivers flow along the fringes of this desert.Climatic Conditions-The climate is very hot and extremely dry.It has a short rainy season.The sky is cloudless and clear.The temperatures during the day goes upto 50?C and the night may be freezing cold with temperature nearing zero degrees.Al-Azizia in Sahara desert, south of Tripoli, Libya, recorded the highest temperature of 57.7?C in 1922.Flora and fauna-The climatic conditions are not suitable for the growth of plants. The main plants species are cactus, acacia and date palms.The animals found here are camels, hyenas, foxes, scorpions, snakes and lizards.People and their economic activities-The Bedouins and Tuaregs are important nomadic tribes.They rear sheep, goats and camels. These animals provide milk, meat and hides.The oasis in the Sahara and the Nile Valley in Egypt Supports settled populationCrops such as rice, wheat, barley and beans are also grownRecently, mineral oil has been discovered in Algeria, Libya and Egypt.
