As we age our body takes longer to heal and even if we get enough rest and eat healthy, there is a natural decline in our organs. How can we protect ourselves? An annual check-up by a doctor or nurse practioner is very important. If the appointment is close to the month and day of your birth, it is easier to remember. The exam will include questions, lab work, a blood pressure comparison, monitoring of your heart, lung, skin and lymph nodes. Be truthful with your answers. Our skin is delicate, protect it with skin block, SPF 30 or higher. Even if you don’t see the damage, skin can be in distress. Skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema need special care, especially during extreme temperatures. Our eyes go through changes steadily as we age. Age related macular degeneration should be treated if you notice pain or blurred vision. Don’t delay an exam. Our feet and our dental/oral hygiene cannot be neglected. It’s not easy, but an ounce of prevention is especially important for MUNITY EVENTSWestwood Cleanup Project, September 21, 10am – 1pm, Wesley Community Center, 3730 Delphos Ave. Volunteers are needed to help clean-up the Westwood Neighborhood.
