We invite you to join us for coffee and rolls in the parish hall following the service.Explanation of the Week: The new church year begins by focusing on the humble coming of our Lord. "Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey." Even as He was born in a lowly manger, so Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a beast of burden. For He bears the sin of the world. He is the Son of David riding to His enthronement on the cross, where He shows Himself to be "The Lord, our Righteousness" (Jer 23:5-8). Our Lord still comes in great humility to deliver His righteousness to us in the Word and Sacraments. Before receiving Christ's body and blood, we also sing, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Mt 21:1-9) And as we receive the Sacrament, we set our hearts on His return in glory, for "Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed" (Rom 13:11-14).What Luther Says“Your King is Coming in the Promise of the Gospel”“See, that’s what “your King is coming” means. You do not seek Him; He seeks you. You do not find Him; He finds you. For the preachers come from Him, not from you. Their preaching comes from Him, not from you. Your faith comes from Him, not from you. And everything that faith works in you comes from Him, not from you.” (AE 75:1)? ? ?Today we receive Holy Communion. The Lord Jesus Christ gives His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. In “the Sacrament of the Altar” Jesus Christ comes to us in His true body and blood through the power of Christ's Words. This precious gift joins us with God and with one another in the faith. We welcome Christians holding the pure Biblical confession of the Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod to receive Holy Communion at this altar. This confession is summarized in Luther’s Small Catechism, and included in the Book of Concord. If you are a visitor from a neighboring LCMS congregation, and have never received communion here, please speak with Pastor Loeslie or an elder before coming to receive communion. If you are of a different confession of faith, please speak with Pastor Loeslie or an elder before coming to Holy Communion. St. Paul warns Christians that Christ’s body and blood can cause spiritual harm (1 Corinthians 11:29-30) if received by those who do not believe in Christ’s true bodily presence in the Sacrament. In loving concern, we do not want anyone to receive this precious gift to their harm, but for the soul’s healing of sins and salvation in Christ, as Martin Luther said in the Small Catechism, “Where there is forgiveness of sins, there is life and salvation!”?The Lord’s Supper is only offered for members of Bethlehem and members of the LCMS congregations in good standing who confess the Biblical teaching with us. This practice, done out of love, is called closed communion, tries to ensure that everyone who receives this gift does so to their souls’ great benefit and comfort. We come to the altar repentant of our sins, and rejoice to rejoice to receive Christ’s forgiveness. (for Questions and Answers in personal preparation for Communion, see p. 329 of the Hymnal).Adult instruction in the Christian faith is available for anyone interested in learning more about the Bible and the Lutheran faith. Classes are ongoing, and for anyone who wants to become communicant member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. We would be delighted to have you as a member of our congregation.? ? ?FOOD SHELF COLLECTION There are boxes in the parish hall starting now and running through Christmas to bring food/cleaning items to donate to the local Food Shelf, or a local family in need.DECEMBER NEWSLETTER may be picked up from your box in the parish hall.PORTALS OF PRAYER for January thru March are available on the back pew and on the table in the parish hall.left10986700 SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1SUNDAY SCHOOL The Children’s Christmas Program Service rehearsals will be November 29th, December 6th, 13th, and 20th during Sunday School.
