STUDENT CFA® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – 2003

STUDENT CFA® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – 2003

AIMR®, the sponsor and administrator of the CFA® Program, is pleased to offer the 2003 Student Scholarship Program for college students who are sponsored by a full-time college or university professor who is a CFA charterholder. Students may not apply directly for this program, but must be selected and sponsored by a qualified professor. This program is a partnership with professors to introduce outstanding students to the investment profession and an opportunity to provide mentoring during the study process. Students interested in a career in investment management and analysis make stronger job candidates when they have completed their Level I examination.

What are the criteria for a qualified professor?

A professor must be a CFA charterholder in good standing, and a full-time faculty member at one university teaching a minimum of six (6) credit hours per quarter or semester. Administrators (dean or department heads) must teach a minimum of three (3) hours to qualify.

Professors on leave or sabbatical from their primary university six (6) months prior to the 2003 CFA exam are not eligible to sponsor scholarship students.

What are the criteria for a qualified student?

A student is defined as a full-time 4th year student or part-time graduate student at the time of registration and holding a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent no later than 31 December of the 2003 exam year.

(Note: Applicants must fulfill all CFA candidate requirements to register.)

What does the scholarship cost?

AIMR waives the registration fee and discounts the normal enrollment fee. Students pay only US$100.00 regardless of where in the world they reside. This is a non-refundable fee.

Only Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB may be used. AIMR does not accept Discover, debit cards, or other cards and does not invoice for payment. Checks and money orders are acceptable.

What does the scholarship cover?

➢ Student scholarships are available for new candidates at Level I only.

➢ Books and study materials are NOT included in the US$100.00 cost.

➢ Scholarships apply to the May/June 2003 CFA exam only.

How many scholarships can a professor award?

A professor may award a maximum of five (5) student scholarships. If your university has more than one qualified professor on staff, AIMR allows a maximum of 10 student scholarships per college or university campus.

How does the selection process work?

A professor may establish his own criteria for selecting student scholars. However, you may not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, or nationality. Some suggestions for criteria are: financial need, scholastic grades, or an essay on why prospective scholars would like to enter the CFA Program.

If a student scholarship candidate has already registered and enrolled for the 2003 CFA exam, does he/she get a refund?

Yes, if you choose a scholarship candidate who has already enrolled for the 2003 CFA exam, AIMR will refund his/her money less the US$100.00 scholarship fee. However, the AIMR Scholarship Office will need the completed Scholarship Verification Form in order to process the refund request. If the student originally paid by check, he/she will be refunded by check. If the student paid by credit card, his/her card will be credited.

After my student scholars have been selected, how do I proceed?

✓ E-mail the name, AIMR candidate number, social security number or national identification number of your scholarship candidates as soon as you have selected them to the AIMR Scholarship Office: scholars@

Note: Deadline for name submission is 15 January 2003.)

✓ The student should complete and sign the Scholarship Verification Form. (The student completes the header and a portion of Section A and the sponsoring professor completes the remainder of Section A, both signing where applicable.)

▪ Attach a cover memo authorizing your student scholarship selections;

▪ Batch together the Registration and Enrollment form;

▪ Scholarship Verification Form;

▪ Check or credit card information, and

▪ Mail or fax the complete packet for each student to the AIMR Scholarship Office for processing.

Note: AIMR will send one set of AIMR publications to each sponsoring professor to be shared between you and your students (non-AIMR texts are not included).

What should be avoided?

Do not send the scholarship forms to AIMR's regular registration address as forms may be returned for non-payment or candidates may be charged the full fees. They must be processed through the AIMR Scholarship Office at the address listed below.

Scholarship candidates who enroll online will be charged the full registration and enrollment fees. However, a refund can be processed at a later date upon receipt of the completed Scholarship Verification Form.
