BLS Instructor Application2017-2018 CPR Instructors are vital assets to the Illini EMS Education Department who promote quality CPR and First Aid education to new and current IEMS members, campus staff, and community members. Please read through the entire application prior to submission. Qualifications1.) All applicants must hold a current and valid American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR card. 2.) All applicants must hold a current and valid State of Illinois EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, or EMT-Paramedic license by the start of the fall 2017 semester. 3.) Current seniors will not be considered unless you will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a full 5th year. 4.) All applicants must complete AHA instructor training guidelines and maintain all licensing (CPR-I, CPR, EMT-B) while under contract with Illini Emergency Medical Services. By indicating that you would like to be considered as a CPR-I in this application, you are being considered for a paid position at $10.00 per hour that will require being hired by the university. After debt to IEMS has been paid off (please see details under Training), you will be paid for each class you teach. Hours taught beyond the 15 unpaid hours will also count towards your educational volunteer hours. ResponsibilitiesCPR-Instructors ensure proper instruction of American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Provider, AHA Heartsaver CPR and First Aid (FA) courses for all IEMS members, IEMS clients, and outreach groups that may require CPR or FA certification. Newly certified CPR-Instructors will be required to teach 15 unpaid hours during the 2017-18 academic year to pay off the $150 debt to IEMS. Classes are typically held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6-10 PM, and Sundays from 12-4 PM. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of the class that they are teaching, including but not limited to:1. Delivering content that is consistent with American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider or Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid course agenda.2. Ensuring equipment is in working order and available in sufficient quantity as recommended for specific student to instructor ratios.3. Providing timely and appropriate feedback to students.4. Securing and protect testing materials.5. Decontaminating equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.6. Measuring students’ skills and knowledge against performance guidelines.7. Remediating by directing students to reference material and by providing additional practice opportunities.8. Complete post-course records, including an accurate roster, grade report, and summary evaluation.TrainingAfter a thorough review conducted by the Education Department, accepted applicants are considered CPR-Instructor Candidates. CPR-I Candidates must complete a specific training process in order to be recognized as an official IEMS CPR Instructor. CPR-I Candidates will be required to complete the requirements of the AHA BLS Instructor course in alignment with Presence Regional EMS System (PREMSS). The time and date of this course will be determined after all applicants are notified of their acceptance. This course costs $150.00 (subject to change) and will be covered by IEMS. Failure to complete the training process, teach the mandatory number of classes, or meet contract requirements will breach the IEMS CPR-I contract and the instructor will be responsible for paying the course fee of $150.00. Once the initial cost of the course has been paid back by the new instructor by teaching 15 hours, you will be paid an hourly rate of $10 for a maximum of $50 per course. Instructors will be monitored for one class and will be evaluated by the Assistant Director of Education or the CPR Class Coordinators.
