COVID-19 Certification FAQ (UPDATED July 7, 2020)First Aid, CPR, AED, O2 and Lifeguard CertificationWill Y-USA Extend Certifications?Effective in late March,?Y-USA extended the authorization period of all YMCA Health & Wellness and YMCA Aquatic certifications, from March 17 through May 15, for four months.?Based on the continuing COVID-19 crisis,?Y-USA also extended YMCA certifications for those expiring from May 16 through June 15 by three months. Records have been updated accordingly.In addition, effective June 15, YUSA will conduct the following extensions for YMCA Lifeguards, Trainers and Faculty:YMCA Lifeguards that expire 6/15/2020 through 7/31/2020 will have their certifications extended by two months. *Note that this extension is only for those not already impacted by a previous extension. YMCA Lifeguard Instructors who expired between 3/17/2020 and 8/1/2020 will receive (or have received) a one-time 120-day extension based on their original expiration date. Any instructor who previously received a 90-day extension will have the extra 30 days added to bring them in alignment with their ASHI authorization. Any instructor who previously received a 120-day extension (those that previously expired between March 17th and May 15th, 2020) will not have an additional authorized extension added to their instructor credential.YMCA Swim Instructors and YMCA Swim Officials that expire 6/15/2020 through 7/31/2020 will have their certifications extended by two months. *Note that this extension is only for those not already impacted by a previous extension. American Safety & Health Institute?(ASHI) and?American Heart Association?(AHA) have instituted a 120 day extension for held certifications expiring during this time, however they are not issuing new cards with the updated expiration date. Y-USA will recognize this extension in LCDC via the outside license upload application. Please follow these step-by-step instructions.?American Red Cross (ARC) is granting an extension for held licenses via an eLearning on their site that must be completed for extension. Upon completion ARC will issue you an extension certificate that must be uploaded to LCDC along with your original card for approval. Once you have completed the extension course and received your updated ARC certificate, upload to LCDC using the Outside License Application. Instructions can be found here under “How do I upload a License”. If you have any questions on your current status, please submit a support case through the?Learning and Career Development Center (LCDC).?My certification expired before the in-person course moratorium/extension grants. What should I do?Students/staff that held a certification with an expiration date before the class moratorium began should have completed their renewal activities before their expiration date in order to remain current. If a certification is expired and/or ineligible for a certification extension, the student/staff will need to retake the full course to re-earn the certification. What should I do?Y-USA can only recognize extensions put in place by the certifying agency and is not able to make exceptions on behalf of the agency. You will need to retake the class from the certifying agency and upload your new license to LCDC. Trainers and Faculty of any in-person, Instructor-Led Training (ILT) can deliver any leadership development and program course?they are a trainer or faculty for?as a Virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT). A YMCA Lifeguard v6 Virtual Instructor Guide has been released in the LCDC, however, NO Additional AQUATIC COURSES?can be delivered virtually, as there are in person skills portions that include person to person contact. Local trainings may be conducted as long as your state and local guidance on gatherings and social distancing are followed.Conversion from in-person to virtual requires a review of content to ensure it is a good fit for virtual instruction. As an instructor, you may modify content as needed for a virtual environment and determine how content will be presented through interactive sessions critical for virtual instructor-led trainings and classes. If your course requires a skills demonstration, as the trainer, you will need to visibly see the participants demonstrate their skills.?As a certified trainer or faculty for the course, prior to hosting a vILT, you should:Create the class?in the Learning & Career Development Center (LCDC);Watch this?15-minute microlearning?on the basics of hosting and presenting in a virtual environment. This will help you become familiar with virtual facilitation and decide on a?virtual engagement platform;Use the?prepare to facilitate in a virtual class?resource to help you prepare the course for virtual engagement and review this?facilitating in the virtual environment?checklist to give you meeting preparation, participant engagement and additional tips for your virtual facilitation;Send out?Preparing for Virtual Class?to all of the registered participants.To effectively run virtual courses, it is best to have a producer, someone who will help with technical issues, take notes and monitor chat. This could be a participant in the course, you will want to identify a producer prior to launching your training. ................
