“Jump Rope For Heart”

At Mayfield Elementary

Students at Mayfield Elementary are jumping! They are gearing up to fight against the nation’s Number One killer—heart disease and stroke! During the week of March 8th, 2010 the school will hold its annual “Jump Rope for Heart” event. This event will take place during your child’s regular P.E. class. All students will jump rope and will have the option to raise money for this very worthy cause: the American Heart Association.

Collection envelopes are being sent home today. The prizes that the students can earn are listed on the flap of the envelope. Prizes from the American Heart Association will be awarded in 4-6 weeks after the event. If you choose to have your child raise money for the American Heart Association, please separate the “permission slip” from the flap of the collection envelope and return it to your child’s classroom teacher by the date of the event, no later than March 12th, 2010. Students are to give the collection envelope to the teacher as soon as they arrive at school.

All money collected will be given to the American Heart association to support vital research, community services and educational programs. By allowing your child to participate in Jump Rope for Heart, you are helping to fight America’s number one killer—heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association always gives back by giving the schools jump ropes and lesson plans/materials for classroom teachers.

Volunteers Needed: If you are able to help during your child’ s gym time, please complete the attached volunteer form and return it to your child’s classroom teacher. Adults are needed to twirl the long rope and Double Dutch ropes, and supervise students. Make sure you have a volunteer form on file.

Bonus Prizes: 1 Jump rope for each class--for the student who can jump the longest without missing (This is a timed event). For the top 5 students in grades K-3 and the top 5 students in grades 4-6—A Special Lunch Date with Mrs. Vance! Students who bring in $10 or more will be able to sign Mrs. Vance’s T-Shirt! Special drawings will be held in each class.

Matching Funds: Many companies have matching gifts programs. Companies with such programs agree to match their employees’ donations to nonprofit organizations by some percentage or up to some preset limit. Any matching gift funds will be included in the amount of money your child raises.
