Students will benefit from the advantages of face to face interactions with the teacher and fellow students, with the structure and accountability of a traditional class, as well as the flexibility, online learning tools, and technology immersion of an online learning environment. Students will be in the classroom on alternating days. On the days that the student is not in the classroom the student will be learning independently utilizing online tools designed by the teacher. The class will be set up on a semester-long A/B schedule either 1st or 4th period. Students will learn the same skills and American History content that they would in a traditional setting; however, the blended learning model will be more flexible and dynamic than the traditional classroom setting.Due to the A/B day alternating structure of the Blended Learning Model, there are several requirements for students involved in the program:Students must be self-motivated to meet the expectations of this course and self-disciplined to do the necessary coursework on the days the class does not meet in person (not a “free” day)Due to the digital emphasis of the course, students will need reliable technology to access their work at home.On the first day of class students will be asked if they will complete their independent work at home or at school. If a student is not able to work from home the student will complete their work in the Digital Learning Lab (YES Center). The Digital Learning Lab will be the only space open for students to complete their work. If the student says that they will be able to complete their work at home (off campus), they must provide their own transportation. Students will not be able to decide if their class meets on an A day or B day.
