Program Information

This program will emphasize the need for optimal assessment / observation and reporting to health care providers in order to determine if behaviors are medically, psychiatrically, neurologically or pharmacologically based. Concentration will be made on those individuals with ID/DD from the ages of 22 to 35.

About Massachusetts DDNA

MADDNA-Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association converted to a chapter of the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA) in 2009. The chapter provides a local/regional forum for nurses to meet and share knowledge particular to their area of practice. MADDNA is invested in broadening the knowledge of all nurses and other professionals involved in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities as well as any other interested parties.

About Our Speakers

Theresa (Terry) Broda, RN, BScN, NP-PHC, CDDN is a Nurse Practitioner with 20 years' experience working with adults that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is one of the first few nurses in Canada to obtain certification from the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association and is a past President of this association. Terry currently works as a consultant with Solution-s, in Ottawa, and shares a collaborative clinic with a psychiatrist, supporting persons with IDD and a dual diagnosis.

Dr. Samuel Frank is an Associate Professor of Neurology at BUMC; Movement Disorder Specialist, Department of Neurology, Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders Center at Boston University Medical Campus; Director of Clinical Care at the Jamaica Plain VAMC Dystonia Clinic. He is dedicated to improving the lives of those with Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, dystonia, and other movement disorders through research, clinical care, and education

Dr. Margaret Bauman is a pediatric neurologist and research investigator who has been a pioneer in the study and treatment of autism for the past 25 years. She is dedicated to clinical and research advances in this field. She established and developed The Autism Research Foundation, The Autism Research Consortium, LADDERS (Learning and Developmental Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services) now known as the Lurie Center, and the Autism Treatment Network.

Dr. Edwin Mikkelsen

Associate Professor Psychiatry Harvard Medical School; Consultant in Psychiatry McLean Hospital; Psychiatric Consultant for Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services; Medical Director at The MENTOR Network; Executive Committee on Clinical Issues in the Care of MI/MR Individuals, MA DDS; Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry. Member of American Psychiatric Association, American College of Psychiatrists.

Nanette R Wrobel, RPh, is the Clinical Coordinator for Pharmacy Alternatives, a national pharmacy including the following: Editor of monthly newsletter, monthly educational webinars, trainings and live seminars specializing in the medications used by the I/DD population; oversee all pharmacy consulting services to national pharmacy including regulatory compliance and on-site pre-survey expertise.
