Technical Notes

The Policies in Force by Program by State dataset provides the number of insurance policies in force for each program for each state.

The policies in force is the number of life insurance policies in force.

The programs include:

1. National Service Life Insurance

2. Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance

3. United States Government Life Insurance

4. Veterans’ Mortgage Life Insurance

5. Veterans’ Reopened Insurance

6. Veterans’ Special Life Insurance

The total is the total number of life insurance policies in force for all programs combined for each state.

The data is report at the state level, plus insureds in American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Data is current as of April 30, 2011.

| |who had been eligible to obtain insurance between October 8, 1940|

|Veterans’ Special Life Insurance |Life insurance for Korean War-era Veterans. Closed to new |

| |issues. |
