Technical Notes

The Number of Policyholders by Program by State dataset provides the number of insurance policyholders for each program for each state.

The number of policyholders is the number of individuals with life insurance policies in force.

The programs include:

1. National Service Life Insurance

2. Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance

3. United States Government Life Insurance

4. Veterans’ Mortgage Life Insurance

5. Veterans’ Reopened Insurance

6. Veterans’ Special Life Insurance

The total is the total number of policyholders for all programs combined for each state.

The data is report at the state level, plus insureds in American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Data is current as of December 31, 2011.
