I want to know about the detail of the work contents. This research is important to me because researching the work that I am interested in is opportunity to think about my future deeply. And I can know how to spend two years in university by researching the qualifications of the ideal job.2. Research QuestionsResearch questions I thought are “What do I need to do to become a flight attendant?” and “What do flight attendants do in the airplane?” I think that these two questions are very important to know before the job hunting. I have a longing for the job as a flight attendant, but I don’t know what flight attendants do actually.3. Methods3-1. Data CollectionTo find the answer of the research questions, I refer to the website of some airline company and some websites which are written about flight attendant. As for the Japan Airlines, there is the website that is written about adoption and personnel affairs. But I could not know the detail qualifications. So, I refer to other websites which are written about not only Japanese airlines but also foreign airlines. To find the answer of research question 2, I searched on the Internet and asked my sister who works as a flight attendant.3-2. Data AnalysisAs for the qualifications, it is various by a company. But the rough standard is the same at all airlines. In the case of a major company (JAL, ANA), the educational background of “more than technical school” is required regardless of a new college graduate or a graduate. Japan Airlines may impose certain height restrictions, as flight attendants must possess the ability to reach overhead compartments with ease to load and unload luggage for passengers. It is necessary to take an employment examination of each airline to become a flight attendant. There is the company carrying out a different employment examination in “graduates” and “a new college graduate”. The abilities that is need for a flight attendant are the attention, calmness and physical strength. Ability of the waiting on customers that can be equivalent to every person regardless of nationality and age flexibly is necessary. In addition, linguistic ability and an international sense, the culture are necessary to practice such attention. The judgment that can support appropriately in emergency and the spiritual strength that any situation can cope with calmly are necessary. It is physical strength to be important above all. Strong customer service skills will help you during stressful situations.Flight attendant is dealing directly with passengers. The jobs center on catering to travelers and providing inflight services aboard aircraft. Workers must prove adaptable and energetic to assume the role as well as dedicated to customer service and providing memorable experiences for travelers. They are very busy in the airplane because they have to do many things such as distributing a newspaper and preparing for a drink and meal.4. Results & Discussion4-1. Answers and interpretations for research question 1To become a flight attendant, I have to prepare for a career as a flight attendant. First, I have to know what the job entails. Second, I have to get familiar with the benefits and drawbacks. Third, I have to understand the hierarchy of the job. Some companies may impose certain height restrictions, as flight attendants must possess the ability to reach overhead compartments with ease to load and unload luggage for passengers. And also the educational background of “more than technical school” is required. Of course, it is necessary for me to take an employment examination of each airline to become a flight attendant. The abilities that is need for a flight attendant are the attention, calmness and physical strength. In addition, linguistic ability and an international sense are necessary. It is physical strength to be important above all. Flight attendants are typically on duty 12 to 14 hours but working on international flights may require more time. If I do not have physical strength, I cannot do the job.4-2. Answers and interpretations for research question 2A flight attendant’s responsibilities are to make sure safety regulations on airplanes are followed and to make sure passengers are comfortable during their flights. Flight attendants have to greet the passengers, distribute a newspaper and a blanket, instruct passengers in the use of emergency equipment, reassure passengers in the event of turbulence and check to see that passengers’ seat belts are fastened, seats are in the upright position, and bags are properly stowed prior to takeoff. They also prepare for a drink, a meal, dessert and put it on the cart and distribute it and prepare for entry documents.5. Conclusion5-1. English & Career DevelopmentFlight attendant is related to English deeply. If you want to work as flight attendant in JAL or ANA, you must have more than 600 points of TOEIC or command of English at the same level. The companies arrange the column filling in TOEIC score in entry sheet. They set 600 points for aim score and announce it on homepages. It is said that the candidates with the high score such as 800 or 900 points came to be seen recently. The companies think that if new employees have 600 points, they can work without any trouble at the beginning of entering a company. The companies think that they want prospective employees to develop command of English before entering a company and carry out a TOEIC test in October as an incentive of the learning. After the entering the company, not to mention the service to the visitor of the foreigner, maintenance manuals and contracts in overseas need English, and the command of English is essential to the related duties. And also the companies use TOEIC score for training attendance requirements. For example in the case of a flight attendant, higher than several points of TOEIC are necessary to begin training to aim at the chief parser of the international airline. To enter the company, I have to study English hard. Of course, English is very important, but it is not only command of English that is necessary. Other than command of English, it is said that customer intention, human being power and change power are necessary.5-2. Two year plan for future careerTwo years in university life are very important for future career. I should spend a college life significantly. To become a flight attendant, I think that I must improve my English and acquire ability for waiting on customers. First, I have to improve my English. The command of English is very important to be a flight attendant. I have to get a high score of TOEIC before job hunting. In case of JAL and ANA, more than 600 point of TOEIC is necessary because the applicant have to write TOEIC score in entry sheet. It is said that the candidates with the high score such as 800 or 900 points came to be seen more recently. There are returnee children and people who have study abroad experience in the applicants. I have to study English harder and get high score of TOEIC. When I took the TOEIC test in June this year, I got 745 point. I want to do overseas internship in summer vacation next year. As the application condition, applicants must have 740 point of TOEIC, so 745 point is not enough. Before I apply for the internship, I will get more than 800 point. And the aim point until job hunting is more than 850 point. Second, I have to acquire ability for waiting on customers. I have done a part time job in café for one year. I learned the usage of the honorific and the way of the correspondence of the complainer. Next year, I am going to do another part time job. By doing a part time job, I acquire not only ability for waiting on customers but also communication skill and raise physical strength. In this way, I will become a successful candidate two years later.5-3. Summary of this research projectThrough this research project, I learned how to become a flight attendant and what she does in the airplane. Before the job hunting, I have to improve my English and get a high score of TOEIC. And also I have to acquire ability for waiting on customers.
