COURSE SYLLABUS
Anatomy & Physiology - In this course, students will develop an understanding of the anatomical and chemical makeup of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems as they relate to the whole organism. The student will learn the location and function of the various parts of the human organ systems. Students will use both gross and microscopic observations of dissected organs and organisms in order to accomplish these tasks.

Topics Studied by Grading Periods:
1st 4 ½ weeks - Organization of Body, Integumentary, Skeletal Systems
2nd 4 ½ weeks - Muscular and Nervous Systems, Senses
3rd 4 ½ weeks – Endocrine, Circulatory and Lymphatic Systems
4th 4 ½ weeks - Respiratory Digestive, Urinary and Reproductive Systems
Anatomy and Dissection of the Cat
Final Exam – Comprehensive, will cover entire semester
Materials Needed - 3 ring binder notebook, pens, pencils, colored pencils, one bottle of liquid soap, and one box of rubber gloves.
Assessments - tests/quizzes + daily grades
Daily grades include homework, labs and lab reports, notebook checks, and class participation. Test grades will include chapter assessments and major reports. The daily average will count 40% and the test/quiz average will count 60% of the total grade. In keeping with the Washington County School grading policy, grades will be calculated as follows:
A=93-100, B=85-92, C=77-84, D=70-76, F=below 70
Make-up Policy - In keeping with school policy, any work missed due to student absence should be made up within 3 school days upon the student’s return to school. (Please refer to student handbook for complete explanation of make-up policy.) Work not completed within a reasonable period of time will be recorded as zero.
Homework Policy - Homework assignments are expected to be completed on time. Except in case of school absence, no late work is accepted.
Classroom Rules 1. No disruptions of the teaching/learning process will be tolerated.
2. No horseplay.
3. Class members and teacher will be treated with respect.
