13 APPLAUDING THE ANCHORAGE 2000 ORGANIZERS, BOARD MEMBERS, AND

14 STAFF FOR THEIR EFFORTSAND COMMITMENTIN MAKING THE IINIGHT OF

15 LIGHT" NEW YEAR'S EVE MillENNIUM CELEBRATION A SUCCESS

WHEREAS,Anchorage2000,a nonprofitorganization,was establishedto provide

19 an historic celebrationusing the Millenniumas a theme to stimulateand enhance the

20 qualityof life, communitypride,and economicdevelopment;and

21

WHEREAS, to assist in this effort, Anchorage 2000 planned three community events

23 which included a "Night of Light" New Year's Eve Millennium Celebration; a Midwinter

24 Festival and Northern Lights Winter Expo and Film Festival; and a Summer Solstice/July

25 4th Celebration; and

WHEREAS, on December 31, 1999, the "Night of Light" New Year's Eve

28 Millennium Celebration began with a Community Candlelight Walk to downtown; a

29 Fireworks Show; Children's activities in the Egan Center; and a PAC. Ceremonial

30 Multicultural Drumming Event to "drum in" the New Year-and Millennium; and

WHEREAS, as we entered the 21st Century, the commitment from others, the

33 countless hours of planning coordinated through Tennys Owens, Board Chair; the

34 Anchorage 2000 Board members; and the Staff enabled the citizens of Anchorage to

35 spend an evening of unity within the community amongst people of all ethnic backgrounds

36 and diverse cultures.

NOW,THEREFORE, the Anchorage Assembly resolves

That the Anchorage 2000 Organizers, the Board of Directors, and Staff are

41 recognized and applauded for their efforts and commitment in making the "Night of

42 Light" New Year's Eve Millennium Celebration a success.
