Mr. Shifman highlighted the quality of the collection, which includes 6 major areas (British and American arts & crafts, works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, European Art Nouveau, Parisian Art Deco, modern and contemporary decorative arts, and Faberge and Russian decorative arts). Mr. Shifman then reviewed his collection priorities to fill in the gaps. These priorities include both Art Nouveau and Art Deco posters to provide ample gallery rotation, ceramics and glass, and enamels. Mr. Shifman noted that VMFA has a large collection and would like to be able to showcase, integrate and rotate more often. AAMD GUIDELINES ON ANCIENT ART ACQUISITIONS Director Nyerges guided the committee through a discussion of the AAMD guidelines on acquiring Ancient Art to clarify the 2013 guidelines. He noted the importance of avoiding any works that may have been illegally excavated or imported. Mr. Nyerges also emphasized that the museum would not consider acquiring any works that may have been stolen. The committee asked the staff to draft a statement regarding specific guidelines for VMFA and to present the draft document at the next meeting.
