Workshop: Community Creativity with Sound

[pic] [pic] [pic] [pic]

Every aspect of nature pulsates in an endless interplay of delicate and complex vibrations. Our bodies, and our lives, are part of this pattern.

When we encounter illness or constant stress this creates disharmony in our own natural vibrations. Ancient cultures have long used sacred sound as part of their healing rituals. Now there is a growing body of scientific and clinical research into the therapeutic effects of these ancient sound healing tools.

No previous musical experience is necessary to attend these

community sound workshops:

The first part of the workshop is an interactive session, where we will have fun exploring the sound tools and creating a soundscape - an auditory landscape. The April workshop will include a group drumming element, which will form the basis of our soundscape. If you possess your own drum, you are welcome to bring it along. Working with soundscapes involves observation, listening, creativity, and enjoying the creation of sound with others in a safe, private space.

There will be a 30 minute break for refreshments.

The second part of the workshop will be a passive therapeutic sound experience. You will be bathed in a soothing, relaxing cocoon of sound. This is known as a soundbath, and it feels as lovely as it sounds! There will be an opportunity afterwards to chat about your experience of the workshop, and have another cup of tea before heading home.

Dates: Saturdays - 19th March (includes instrumental soundscape); 2nd April (includes group drumming); 11am - 3pm. Each workshop stands alone, there is no need to attend both (though you might like to!)

Tea and biscuits provided, you may also wish to bring a sandwich for the break.

Venue: The Edinburgh Montessori Nursery, 98 Lasswade Road, Edinburgh, EH16 6SU.

Cost: A suggested (optional) donation of £10, to cover costs. The workshops are part of my case study work towards a Sound in the Community Diploma (British Academy of Sound Therapy). However, pre-booking is required as places will be limited.

Please note, these workshops are not Sound Therapy and no claims are made to diagnose or cure any condition. Please check with your GP if you are unsure.
