6th Grade Social Studies Final Project

Social Science Standards: Students describe what is known through archeological studies of the early physical and cultural development of humankinds from the Paleolithic era to the agricultural revolution. Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, China, and Mesoamerican Civilizations.

Objective: In groups of three, you will synthesize your knowledge of ancient world history by creating a PowerPoint presentation of one of the cultures we have studied in the past year. The slides will be classified by themes we have used in the past year. Think of your audience as the incoming 6th grade students of 2015-2016.

What essential information should they know about each civilization?

Your presentation will include 15-20 slides containing the following:

• Title, Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, Social Structures, and Bibliography/Resources

• Each slide will include a theme title, at least one sentence of information, and at least one image

• Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization must be correct on each slide

Internet Web Sites (limit 2 web site sources)

Roles and Rotations: Each day you will take turns playing the different roles so that everyone in the group contributes equally to the final project.

1. Researcher: Find essential information in the textbook

2. Recorder: Plan the first draft of the PowerPoint slides on worksheets

3. Publisher: Enters and formats the data into the computer

Your group will be evaluated based on a scoring rubric.

Points will be taken from those individuals who fail to complete his/her corresponding portion of the project!

Due Dates:

Presentations will begin May 18th – May 22nd

*A sign-up sheet will be available two weeks prior to presentations. You will be held responsible for presenting on the scheduled date stated on the sign-up sheet. A deduction of points will be applied if team members are not ready to present on that day.
