Advancing the education of clinical acupuncture and Chinese herbal science-study and practice with the best.

GAM is one of the Academy’s international training centers for clinical TCM and acupuncture, clinical section of institute of clinical science and information, WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine(Western Pacific region).

Medical professionals from primary health workers, physical therapists, acupuncture practitioners, chiropractors, medical students, doctors and research fellows from more than 60 countries have ever studied in different clinical departments at GAM since 1981.GAM has been also entrusted by the Ministry of Health to run a two-year TCM courses for Chinese doctors of Western medicine who want to learn TCM.

Each year, thousands of foreign visitors from tourists, medical professionals to government officials come to GAM to observe and experience the practice of TCM.

Our short-term training programs focus on the improvement of clinical skills in different aspects of TCM, such as acupuncture, massage and herbs. All the clinical departments including the most popular ones among international students which are listed below are open throughout the year. And now there is a growing number of doctors at GAM speaking English. In the acupuncture department, for example, all the doctors at 8 clinic rooms and 1 big ward with nearly 50 beds may supervise foreigners in English.

To upgrade the academic exchange, seminars on different topics are organized from time to time for both Chinese doctors and foreign learners at GAM.

The following clinical departments are the most popular ones among foreign learners.

|Main departments |Number of Doctors |commonly seen diseases |

|Oncology |21 |late stage of different cancers (lung, stomach, liver, breast, |

| | |etc.) |

|Internal medicine |8 |upper respiratory tract infection, rhinallergosis, trachitis, |

| | |asthma, etc. |

|Acupuncture |18 |Different pains, stroke, skin, eye, ear, and women’s diseases |

|Tuina(Chinese massage) |5 |all injuries of soft tissues, digestive system & children’s |

| | |diseases |

|Dermatology |11 |psoriasis, eczema, acne, lupus erythematosus, dermatitis, etc. |

|Gynecology |8 |Irregular menses, hysteromyoma, endometriosis, carcinoma, etc. |

Our courses, focusing on clinic observation, will allow international students to witness first-hand the diagnoses of patients, and the formulation and implementation of various treatment methods in actual clinic setting.

Be aware that as herbs are overwhelmingly used as the predominant therapy in all clinical departments (except acupuncture, Tuina and Qigong), students, especially those applying for the study of internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, gynecology, etc.. are therefore required to possess sufficient knowledge on the basics of herbs including the Chinese Pin Yin names, functions and even some common formulas.

Note that a student’s minimum stay in a clinical department is usually one week but it may also depend on the availability of English speaking tutors.

Other useful information:

Food: There are 2 restaurants in the hospital and several others near the hospital. 4 US$ is enough for 3 meals a day in the hospital’s restaurants. Eating out can be a little more expensive.

Accommodation: We can help the students to make reservation in the nearby hotels(★★★)at a daily rate of about US$60 to 80 .

Although ordinary foreign tourists may rent apartments from local legal real estate agents at a relatively cheaper price, according to local law and regulations in terms of international students’ accommodation, registered students of GAM Int’l are not allowed to rent apartments from these agents.

Note: As there was no dormitory in GAM Hospital, in the past international students had to stay in local hotels during their course period. Expensive hotel rate has hindered many students from coming to attend our courses. In order to make accommodations more affordable for students, GAM Int’l started to arrange local apartments from reliable sources for them to rent since 2003. Staff of GAM Hospital have been encouraged to provide their empty apartments to the students. By now, several apartments in the hospital vicinity are available. This decision is accepted by the local police. This accommodation arrangement has been welcomed by most of our students.
