This closely aligns with the new curriculum-skill development and conceptual understanding-focus on metacognition (thinking about thinking) how do we know we understand something?-conferencing and communication skills are important drivers behind this type of reporting-growth mindset and the role of the family-before conferences, have a chance to have conversations about how school is going (see blue handout for ideas) -20 minute meetings – focused on child’s strengths and areas for growth (not just particular to school)-after the conference – teachers will set a goal for the child for the coming term (feedback to teacher about the goals)-Term 1 report card will have a learning conference plan (goal from conference) will focus on skill development (curricular focused) -for each reportable subject you will see a letter grade (Gr. 4-7) or a performance standard (K-3) but you will NOT see individual subject comments-Term 2 will be back to a regular standard report card, letter grades or reporting standards, as well as comments for each subject, as well as a touch back to the goal that was set in the first termComments:-core competencies and Social Emotional Learning – will be addressed in the conferences-Letter grades shouldn’t be a surprise on the report cards – teachers should make it clear how your child is doing in Literacy and Math and any other areas of concern-Different teachers for different subjects – how will you connect with those teachers who teach your child? The classroom teacher will connect with the platooning teacher to understand how the child is doing -3 Early Dismissal Days in a row – teacher’s need to have enough spots for their classes – Jillian Gordon will be in contact with NSNH for optionsRidgeway traffic & safety update with special guest City of North Vancouver?Mayor Linda BuchananBackground: -Long history with Ridgeway and the neighbourhood-biggest administrative change, all council members are neighbourhood families-school district and City of NV work well together-all schools have been rebuilt or renovated-school demographics, catchments, land use and transportation, school board office, heritage buildings, gyms, turf fields, crossing guards, City has put 11 million in the past 20 years, child care, child and youth grants-school safety zone: city and school district has a priority together to safely move children to school -variance was approved-staff needed to work with school district that what came out of transportation study-city needed to look at the potential for a traffic calming area around Ridgeway – potential no drop off area around Ridgeway-mid- November – Parents, staff, neighbourhood survey to get impressions on what the concerns and issues are – to develop a litigation plan to see what the best way forward is-early January – report back and take action depending on results-Safe routes to school (travel to from school) -parents-City staff looking at community as a whole, entire neighbourhood, define what the parameters are-there is enough parking within the neighbourhood to absorb 450-500 cars but we look for safer routes to school as this impacts the neighbourhoods-Cloverley – Brand new school – Linda has talked to Fleming about the re-building of that school as all schools are full-through the survey, new signage, lights, paint on pavement will be installed once it is processedOTHER: Arieanna -Thank you to Kate for Card Project-Thank you to Sarah for the Family Photos-Thank you to Amy for Two Rivers fundraiser-Family Of Schools – Haunted Harvest event was great, thanks to Clarissa for organizing as our FOS rep-Natasha Vignal has stepped into the second spot for PAC VP-Spirit Wear sales are ongoing, will begin soon-Babysitting night and social TBA for December-Jen Anderson – Grade 7 rep:Freezie sales $1000DDA sales $700Upcoming coordination of Babysitting night with the Social committeeMost committees are active (social, multicultural, spring fair, bike to school week, fun lunch) and will meeting soonADMIN REPORT: Dean Yeo– Halloween and costumes/guidelines – Masks are ok in the class for the party but cannot be worn in hallways or outside-Student Vote – intermediate students understanding the process -NVSD Strategic Planning Committee – 2 Ridgeway parents needed to join the committee to plan the next 10-year School District budget priorities.Primary Christmas Concert – Nov 19, 21 – 12pm EDNov 20 – 1:50 ED Adjourned at 8:46pmNext Meeting: Nov 18th, 2019 7:00pmSecretary for October 21st, 2019: Kelly Moore Kelly_corday@ ................
