Introduction:

Did you know that your skin is the largest organ of your body? It is, in terms of both weight, between 6 and 9 pounds, and surface area, about 2 square yards. Your skin separates the inside of your body from the outside world. Your skin functions to protect you from bacteria and viruses, helps you sense the outside world and helps to regulate your body temperature. Occasionally conditions can arise that will irritate, clog or inflame the skin and in turn can cause symptoms such as redness, swelling, burning and itching. These conditions can be anything from allergies, external irritants, or your genetic makeup to certain diseases and immune system problems. For this assignment, you will conduct research to help you increase your knowledge about a particular skin disorder of your choosing.

Task:

• You will select a skin disorder that would be of interest to you from the Skin Disorder List.

• Once you have chosen your disorder, you will use the internet as a resource to help you fill out the Skin Disorder Worksheet.

• Once the Skin Disorder Worksheet is complete have your teacher initial it so you can move onto the next step.

• Once the Skin Disorder Worksheet has been initialed you may begin to work on an informational brochure based upon your findings.

The brochure:

• Your brochure must include the information from your Skin Disorder Worksheet.

• The brochure must include a minimum of 4 images.

• The back panel of your brochure MUST include the following: your name, hour, and the resources that you used to collect your information.

• Make sure to use the Skin Disorder Rubric as a guide when constructing your brochure.

• Extra credit can be earned for additional information and colored brochures.
