|Behavioral Objectives/Essential Questions (3-5): |
|The students will: |
|Review the concepts of ‘adjective’ and ‘noun’ |
|Create a work of art based on verbal prompts |
|Use all three verbal prompts in conjunction and determine a way to express all three concepts in one work of art |
|Pennsylvania State Academic Standards: |
|9.1.3.A: Know and use the elements and principles of each art form to create works in the arts and humanities. |
|9.1.3.B: Recognize, know, use and demonstrate a variety of appropriate arts elements and principles to produce, review and revise original works in the arts |
|9.1.3.E: Demonstrate the ability to define objects, express emotions, illustrate an action or relate an experience through creation of works in the arts. |
|Modifications for Individual Differences: Slow learners are only required to select one adjective while advanced students must select two adjectives |
|Materials and/or Equipment: |
|Pencil, paper, colored pencils, list of adjectives (tall, short, hairy, bald, fast, slow, scary, spooky, happy, sad, angry, mean, big, small, furry, silly, old, |
|young, loud, cold, hot, soft, dirty, heavy, sparkly, smart), list of nouns (mom, dad, sister, brother, dog, cat, house, car, bird, fish, whale, dolphin, alien, |
|ghost, elephant, pig, horse, snowman, chicken, basketball, soccer ball, hamster, plane) |
|Preparation: Prepare a pail of adjectives and a separate pail of nouns (include the student’s vocabulary words) |
|Anticipatory Set: Ask students to explain the definition of noun and adjective (noun-person, place, or thing, adjective-word used to describe a person place or |
|thing). |
|Distribute paper to student |
|Have student select two adjectives and one noun from the pail (one/three based on student ability). Student will draw a picture based on the verbal prompts. |
|Student Work Time: Teacher will walk about the room monitoring student progress and distributing additional paper and prompts based on student progress |
|Closure: Students will return their colored pencils to their bin |
|Students will take their projects home with them |
