What YOU can do!
Write a short, polite letter to both the Bloomington Armory and the Military Department of Indiana and urge them not to host any more circuses that feature animal acts. (You can send a copy of the same letter to both -- just change to whom it is addressed to.)

With a little modification, you can email a copy of your letter to the Herald Times (letters@) to be printed in the "letters" section thereby educating a large number of Bloomington residents about circus animal abuse. Must be under 250 words.

[pic]1. Circus animals do not participate willingly. Common training methods include beating animals with whips and "bull hooks". Many trainers also use tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, and food deprivation to make animals perform. Many physical and psychological problems result from this. Similar to abused children, abused animals usually become violent themselves. And when an animal becomes violent the trainers will beat them for displaying bad behavior, or most likely kill them.
[pic]2. Circus animals are forced to travel thousands of miles with the show for 48-50 weeks every year. They are shipped in small cages with barley enough room to turn around. The shipping trucks don’t have heat or air conditioning, and many circuses have difficulty obtaining food and water at the different cities they visit. Some animals barely have enough water to drink, which means that cages and trucks are rarely, if ever, washed.
[pic]3. Once animals have gotten too old to perform they are either permanently put in their winter cages (very small, cramp places) or are sold to zoos, private menageries, game farms (to be shot for "recreation" or eaten as exotic meat), or to a research laboratory.
