Wednesday, April 29, 2020Morning GreetingGood Morning Kindergarten friends! Today is Wednesday, April 29th, 2020. Have a wonderful day!Fun Fact for today: Some sea turtles can weigh as much as a water buffalo.ReadingToday’s Reading: Building on One Another’s Ideas373824526225400Teaching point for today: Early avid nonfiction readers’ conversations state lots of unconnected facts. For example, I might say that an elephant has a trunk. Then, my friend might add that elephants have one or two babies. Two totally different elephant facts! When you talk with your family about the facts you learn about each animal you study, see if you can build on each fact. Like, I would talk more about elephant trunks and why they need them and how they use them. Build on what you say and hear. Make sure you think about this when you write too!Read Aloud: Yesterday, one of the animals under the log in our Science investigation was a salamander. Watch this read aloud video about a child who imagines turning his room into the perfect habitat for a salamander and other creatures of the forest. Think about how the mom asks questions and the boy ”builds on” the ideas from the questions. He gives her detailed answers. Reading: Read one book on Raz-Kids and answer the comprehension questions. Word Work: Sight word Smash-up- You will need your sight words you are working on written on paper or index cards and some things you can toss, like beanbags or buttons. Take the sight words and spread them out on the floor. Your HW Helper calls out one of the words. You call out the word again and spell it. Then, see if you can toss the beanbag to land on that word! Then switch! You call out the word first and have your HW Helper call out, spell, and toss the beanbag. See who lands on the most words!WritingToday’s Writing focus point: An important skill in kindergarten is practicing sentence dictation. Please read the following 3 sentences to your child (one at a time). Have them write the sentences by themselves. You can read the sentences as many times as your child needs. When you begin this activity, remind them to: spell HF/sight words correctly, start with an uppercase letter, all other letters should be lowercase, and use ending punctuation. They should do this as independently as possible!Today’s Independent Writing assignment: Use the sentence dictation paper under printables (or any paper you have) to write the three sentences listed below:We can play with them.Did you see this yellow ball?I like to jump in the mud.Share your work in Seesaw! You can use the Record Writer’s Workshop activity if you would like. You do not have to record your student reading the sentences.MathMath Strategy: Higher numbers 14, 15, and 16 – Counting and showing the number on the double ten frame. An important skill in kindergarten is being able show a number and count on.
