Learning Objective, Outcome: I can identify names of at least 22 common animals, birds, insects when given a picture of it or when someone says the name. IL.NL.1, IC.NM.1Activities/Procedures:1. We will start with just 22 of the 50 animal names this week. The animal unit is a large unit of study which will take more than two weeks. For this week, with the help of family, peers and teacher, attempt to do the items on learning names of animals by doing the matching and writing of animal names on the worksheet. 2. Read and pronounce the Navajo names several times. Have someone help you with pronunciations, that includes the teacher. Call 928 729-7034. 3. Memorize the names; here are suggested tasks to help you. You are familiar with some already from your experience in NL I class last year. Have someone in your family quiz you by saying the words from the handout for you as you say their Navajo names. They say the Navajo, you say the English; they say the English you say the Navajo. Make flash cards to help yourself with memorizing, Navajo name and picture on the back side. Try not to use English. Drawing the items always help your memory. All together, you will eventually have 50 cards. Create a family game that will help you remember what you are learning. It doesn’t have to be a game where you’re all sitting inside; go outside and play the Animal language learning game. Have some fun.Do Drawing with Words of the animals. Remember that is drawing the animals but instead of using lines, you write the name of the animal (you did this last year). 4. IMPORTANT: Record or write on your daily activities as you’re learning new material, the Language Learning journal: what you did, what you learned from doing that, how you learned the new words (what strategies you used) , how you’re feeling. Send this to me (email or on paper) and I will record it in my grade book as your LL Journal assignment for this week. Typed: 2 pages, size 14 fontHandwritten: 3 pagesYou will be given the list of the remaining animals next week. ................
