Engaging On-line Activities

Engaging On-line Activities

413, Sec. 1

This activity was engaging for young children with limited English skills.

Here is the URL address of a great lesson plan about traveling.

This lesson plan can be engaging for any student and easily modified for any student. They are able to create plays, maps on the route they take to get to their destination, create an itinerary of their trip, etc. This allows the student the freedom to plan a trip which they get to select where they want to go and how they want to get their. It is very interactive and allows students the freedom to express themselves in a number of creative learning styles.

A Jungle Journey: Rainforests in Jeopardy

The webquest has the class break into 6 small groups and each group focuses

on a different aspect of learning about the rainforest. This will engage

students interested in the rainforest, students that like to draw, students

that like to use technology, and students that like to conduct research

using the internet and other technology based resources.

This is an engaging website for students who like mental challenges and testing themselves.  Animal lovers will also be entertained with the site.

The web page that I found is   I really like this lesson because it is a fun, interactive way to for kids to get a new perspective on where they live in their community.  It allows ELL students to also be involved because it requires them to have knowledge of their address which uses numbers, a universal language.  This past summer I did a similar project with my campers in Japan, and all of them were involved and excited.  Further extensions can be added to this lesson to make it more challenging such as building a classroom map and having kids build the map and pinpoint where they live.

GameName=MadLibsOnceUponA&Brain=reading&GameNumber=2&Color=FFFFFF

This website is an engaging activity for those children who can read

fluently and are beginning to learn parts of speech, i.e. noun, verb, etc.

Probably best for adcanced first grader or second grader.

Internet for classroom

Title:Synonym Matching

This is engaging for all english speaking student to compare similar words to enhance vocabulary. It can also help improve ESl students' expand their vocabulary and understand meaning of words.

This site is on the Lewis and Clark expedition

This site would be engaging for all students in history because it shows how the Europeans expanded to the west coast. this would be less engaging for most hispanic americans because it is not necessarily their heritage but if it was an intro to a lesson on heritage it could help to foster connection between their new country and their heritage and culture.

This would be engaging to children interested in dinosaurs.  It will help

to build vocabulary, but should not be overused as children will quickly

lose interest.

Fun Brain Math Baseball -

It is engaging for kids who like sports.  Kids do not have to be very

proficient in English, because sports language and rules are universal.

Uses sports to make math engaging.  Site allows for different skill levels

and skills.

Switcharoo Zoo

This website allows kids (second graders) to interactively work with creating their own animal.  The site also allows students to learn about different animals in the zoo and random facts that they can impress their friends with.  I think most students would be interested in this site because it allows them to be creative and learn without them realizing they are working!

This website is a good example of an engaging online activity.  Students who

would find this engaging are students that watch TV and are used to watching

game shows where there is a competitive edge.  Since there is such a variety

of questions, students can use this site to learn more about their body and

its composition while engaging in a competitive game.  If I could change

something about this site, I would have a language option like we saw on the

video today where students can play the game in other languages.

Here is an engaging site for 4th grade students!  One of the major topics of study in 4th grade is the study of the rainforest, and this interactive site allows the students to explore and search ALL aspects of the rainforest.  This includes taking virtual tours, playing games and activities, and having a good time doing it.  This site is engaging for students, the teacher (myself), and I believe parents would find this interesting as well.  Here is the URL:

This website would be engaging for students who are a little competitive in nature.  It has no specific theme, but would work well for all students in your class who are learning multiplication.  As a teacher you would have to give specific directions though because even I was confused about what to exactly do.

I love this activity. It is engaging for students who have recently learned where their states are located, and then it is a quiz to see (1) if they know what the state is that is highlighted and (2) how to spell the state correctly. There are 10 states that are selected. This activity is engaging for students because it is interactive on the computer.

URL: Who wants to be a Mathionaire.

Who is it engaging for? Students that have seen and like the T.V. show "Who wants to be a millionaire". It is also engaging to students who like math.
