ANIMAL SCIENCE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE

PURPOSE:

The Animal Science Community Alliance (ASCA) is a leadership group comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors in the Department of Animal Sciences. Each member will assist in the recruitment of high school students, serve as a peer mentor/small group leader in the ANIM SCI 2700 course, support and mentor current students in the department, plan and implement retention events that build community, and engage in the Columbus community through the mentorship of at-risk youth via science education and professional development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

♦ Full-time student majoring in animal or meat science

♦ Sophomore, junior or senior rank after this spring semester (May 2019)

♦ Completion of ANIM SCI 2700 is preferred

♦ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

♦ Positive attitude and strong work ethic

♦ Appreciate students with a variety of interests, backgrounds, and career goals

♦ Excellent communication skills & dedication to the team

♦ Enthusiasm!

MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS:

♦ Attend the training & team building retreat August 13th – 16th, 2019

♦ Attend all team meetings each Tuesday from 7:00-8:00 AM (unless stated otherwise)

♦ Attend and lead all ANSCI 2700 recitation sessions during the spring semester

♦ Actively participate in the recruitment of high school students into the department

♦ Assist in the planning and implementation of the CFAES Back 2 School Bash & the Winter Student-Faculty Mixer

♦ Provide support and mentorship to current students in the department through a variety of outreach and engagement activities

♦ Teach, engage & mentor at-risk high school students through after school programming on Wednesday’s 4:00-5:00 PM (Need availability either AU or SP term 3:30-5:30 PM)

SELECTION PROCESS:

♦ Complete an application by Sunday, March 24th (11:59 pm) and submit to Benage.1@osu.edu

♦ Interviews will take place in April and there will be a mandatory meeting before finals

♦ Accepted candidates will serve a one-year term starting May 1st
