Lifesaving ManagerJob Description Summary The Lifesaving Manager will oversee all the lifesaving programs at Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center that assist with sustaining and exceeding 90 percent animal save rate. The lifesaving programs include: the foster care program, the behavioral team, transport and rescue, adoptions, enrichment and outreach programs. The Lifesaving Manager will collaborate with volunteers, animal care teams and program coordinators to achieve the lifesaving mission. Lifesaving Manager will report directly to the Assistant Operations Manager. Major Responsibilities and TasksIn order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily.?This job description should be taken as a general description of the responsibilities of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.Responsibilities Oversees and manages the timely placement of animals received by the shelter on a daily basis through lifesaving programs and initiatives. This includes timely behavior evaluation, animal behavior notes are thorough, care is at the highest standard, and quality of life is maximized throughout the length of their stay. Monitor ongoing lifesaving programs to include the Best Friends program, Bottle Baby Team, Behavior Modifications, Foster to Adopt, and Community Cat outreach initiatives (Barn Cat and TNR) to sustain at least 90 percent save rate. To develop, implement, and execute new programs to include shelter pet training, other enrichment programs such as Dogs Playing for Life, and alternatives to shelter surrender programs. Consult and assist in the overseeing of behavior evaluations. Demonstrate the ability to identify canine and feline communication and interpret findings into objective descriptions for staff, volunteers and visitors to understand. Manage, track, report all incomes and outcomes of animals through Petpoint database including foster care, adoption, rescue and transport as well as additional lifesaving programs. Provide training and animal information to support adoption counseling through positive communication to match pets with adopters. Manage timely adoption follow up to ensure that animals have been placed in appropriate homes, and provide support and advice for the adopters.Monitor, track and evaluate animals’ behavior. In collaboration with enrichment team lead and volunteers, ensure animals are provided with exercise and enrichment in a manner necessary to improve their overall health. Engage with the public and community as the pet resource regarding the coordination of animal rescue and transport, foster care, training and behavior modifications. Provide resources to public with reputable trainers and other resources as needed. Coordinate all cat and dog transports to rescues and receiving area shelters. This involves monitoring shelter capacity, tracking, connecting and building relationships with rescues groups as well as promoting animals for rescue. In collaboration with the Lifesaving Team track, design and implement behavioral modifications for cats and dogs with behavioral needs to provide better quality of life. In collaboration with the Lifesaving Team, monitor and execute the foster care programs to include Foster-to-Adopt program and Rent-a-Dog Program where adoptable dogs or cats that are undergoing medical and behavioral treatment are temporarily placed in foster care program. In coordination with the Marketing and Outreach Team, monitor and coordinate marketing strategies of available pets for rescue, transport, and adoptions through social media, website, and any other communications channels. Qualification Requirements The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.?Demonstrated supervisory knowledge to include training methods, motivation and decision making techniques.?Knowledge of all related animal behavior, training techniques, enrichment and behavior modifications. Skill in mediating disputes, conflicts and grievances.? Ability to build alliances with community organizations and agencies.?Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, rescues, staff and any organizational stakeholders. Knowledge in animal health, behavior and well-being to include nutritional needs, resources for information, and knowledge of common animal diseases. Ability to identify animal species, breeds, age and sexes. Ability to determine symptoms of animal illnesses and signs of injuries. Demonstrated personal communication skills to include knowledge of public speaking, skills in writing and editing and ability to express thought orally in a clear manner.Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment. Average animal intake ranges from 10 to 25 stray animals per day. Maintain an annual average transfer rate of 50 per week. Must meet physical requirements of job, to include standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects and handling dogs as large as 95 lbs.Education and Experience To practice and model the mission values, policies, goals, and lifesaving success of Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center. 2+ years of professional experience in animal care and customer service, with animal shelter experience preferred 2+ years of team leadership and management experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of positive reinforcement based dog handling and behavior modification. Demonstrated ability to teach and speak effectively before groups of people and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Maturity, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage and prioritize among multiple tasks. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor under stress in an emotionally and physically taxing field. Strong computers skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media sites. Preference experience will be given to candidates with experience of PetPoint, Petfinder, PetTango. Must be available for occasional overtime, including holidays, evenings and events.Must understand and respect confidentiality, be assertive, able to think strategically, prioritize, focus and be customer oriented. Education and Experience Minimum 2 years in animal sheltering, or kenneling facilities required. High School or GED required. College education and/or certificate in relative field preferred.Scheduling and Availability Must have flexible work schedules that will require evening and weekend shifts as well as availability to cover additional shifts as needed.
