An internationally acclaimed faculty collaborates to provide individually designed programs of instruction in the art of bel canto, adapted for the needs of each participant.

Limited enrollment and generous tuition fellowships

The University of Houston Moores School of Music and the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival Institute of Bel Canto Studies present this intensive program designed for advanced singers:

• Daily individual coaching and observations equivalent to over 35 hours per week

• Daily master classes including techniques in dramatic interpretation and theatrical presentation

• Stage movement

• Emphasis on performance practices relating to musical interpretation, ornamentation, diction, and Fach

• Classroom instruction of specialized topics relating to bel canto, including historical precedents and the current expectations and demands of professional performance

• Individual voice lessons available for participants (optional at no additional charge)

• A final concert of arias, songs, and ensembles

Audition requirements:

• Completed application form with $60 application fee (credit card or check made payable to UH)

• One page resume

• Option 1: New York City Live Audition

February 22, 2014 from 3 – 6 PM at The National Opera Center (330 7th Ave, NYC 10001)

Please indicate on application form if you would like to attend the live audition. You will be contacted to

schedule a live audition upon receipt of your complete application and application fee.

OR

• Option 2: Recorded Audition

DVD audition with three vocal selections, including at least one aria or song by Bellini, Donizetti, or Rossini OR post your audition on YouTube and email us (jsevans3@uh.edu) the link

Application deadline:

• Live Audition application must be received by January 24, 2014

• Recorded Audition and application must be received by March 24, 2014

Fees:

• Application fee: $60 non-refundable

• Registration fee: $850 due upon acceptance non-refundable (fee includes approx. 35 hours of

instruction per week)

• All participants receive a fellowship for the remaining tuition (valued at $3200) underwritten by

the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Foundation

• Optional room and board: $1100 (for out-of-town participants only - University of Houston dormitories; double occupancy; three meals daily)
