Purpose of the Lesson/Why Is It Important

1. To maintain an environment that is safe, quiet and orderly.

2. To get from one place to another quickly and quietly.

3. To be respectful of other classes by using responsible behavior.

4. To identify appropriate behaviors based on the setting.

Teaching Examples

1. Being safe in the cafeteria means stay seated in assigned area and walk in the lunch line.

2. Being respectful in the cafeteria means cooperate with and use appropriate language and tone towards staff and peers.

3. Being responsible in the cafeteria means cleaning up your area, refraining from wasting food and using time wisely.

4. Being productive in the cafeteria means eating only in the cafeteria and place unwanted food in trash can.

Student Activities/ Role Playing

1. Scenario: teacher demonstrates inappropriate and appropriate practice

a. Inappropriate behaviors:

i. Throwing food/ not cleaning up area

ii. Loud voices

iii. Constant movement/ stay seated

2. Scenario: conversation about expected behavior

3. Scenario: coach it into practice

4. Follow up activities: posters, match game….

1. Pre-correct hallway manners:

a. Stay seated
