Next Month ? 5th March 2015 "Inside Short Stories"

Jan Edwards and Peter Coleborn are both writers and editors. Between them they run Alchemy Press, a small independent publisher well respected in the fantasy/horror field, especially for its original anthologies. As a result, they know a lot about short stories. This month, Jan and Peter will be leading a workshop along the lines of a general `writing short fiction'. They will also give guidance about market research and manuscript presentation and are willing to answer your questions around these topics. They will also be making you work hard so:Please bring pen and paper.

The official launch of the anthology will be

Saturday, 21st March

In the upstairs meeting room at Hall Green Library.

There will be readings from the anthology and from other projects that members of the group have been involved with. Please come along, bring your family and friends and buy extra copies of the book.

Salvo 8 a showcase anthology of work by members of the group. If you cannot get along on the 21st either contact me to arrange the best way of getting copies, or come along to a meeting. Copies are for sale at ?6.99 each.

Book Launch

Theresa Derwin will be launching the latest Knightwatch Press anthology on 28th March at The Briar Rose Hotel in Bennetts Hill. Both Lynn and Pauline have stories in the anthology.

Future Meetings

7th May ? Birmingham Poet Laureate Adrian Blackledge will be leading the workshop 3rd September - Helena Hempstead will lead a workshop on the theme of `Birmingham Under'. 1st October - National Poetry Day December ? Annual prose and poetry competions.

Open For Submissions Knightwatch Press ( knightwatchpress ) are open for submissions for one anthologies: Playrooms ? deadline 1st May 2015 ? stories about the darker side of childhood.

Last Month ? 5th February "Discovery"

Vlad Mackevic is lead the workshop this month He started by showing us a picture that he had taken and asked us to decide what we though it represented, writing a list of adjectives, then verbs that we would associate with it. We discussed our ideas in pairs. Then we had to think of a discovery in our past that had an impact on our lives or understanding. We write down a list of phrases and again discussed it with out neighbours.

Events Poets Corner takes place on alternate Saturdays in the Mezzanine Caf? at the Library of Birmingham from 3.00 ? 5.00 pm. Next meetings will be 7th and 21st March.

Cannon Hill Writers' Group, (incorporating Hall Green Poetry Group) Meets every Thursday at Hall Green Library, Stratford Road, from 8.00 pm ? 9.45 pm. We meet in the Children's Corner of the library. When you arrive the front entrance of the library will be closed. Walk round the back, through the green railing gates and ring the bell on the door to the right. Someone will come and let you in.
