I.Course Description:APUSH (Advanced Placement U.S. History) is a year-long survey course in American history and is designed to provide students with a solid foundation for understanding and analyzing the history of the United States, from colonization to the present. This course requires students to develop/strengthen skills in note-taking, organization, logic, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, critical thinking, reading and writing. This course will prep students to take the AP Exam in May, potentially earning college credit. (Exam Date: Thursday, May 6, 2021 @ 8am)II.Course Objectives:To exceed Alabama history standards, earn credit for 10th and 11th U.S. History and “pass” the AP ExamTo develop a comprehensive, factual knowledge of US history and an ability to do something meaningful with this knowledgeTo develop/strengthen skills in reading analysis/comprehension and note-takingTo develop/strengthen writing skills that demonstrate mastery of historical knowledge and an ability to express said knowledge in well-structured paragraphs/essaysTo assess historical materials (relevance to given problem, their reliability and their importance) and to weigh the evidence/interpretations presentedTo develop/strengthen skill in successfully answering multiple choice questions of the type found on the AP examTo enhance study skills necessary to read and understand historical scholarship and to draw conclusions and inferences from this studyIII.Virtual Classroom Expectations:Wake up early & log on a few minutes before class.Find a quiet place and check your puter is charged, camera is on, & use headphones if you have them.Mute yourself when your teacher or another student is talking.Speak clearly, look up when speaking & stay on topic.Raise your hand to speak or type your question in the chat box.Wear appropriate clothing, sit up straight & be in camera view.Be focused, attentive & be an active participant.RESPECT your peers, be kind, & be considerate.IV.BJ Grading Policy:The grading scale is set by the Madison City Board of Education. Quizzes, unit tests and projects/reports count 70% of the final grade and home work/class work/daily grades count the remaining 30%. A = 90-100 D = 65-69 B = 80-89 F = 0-64 C = 70-79 Note: 1. The academic misconduct policy of the school will be followed in this course.2. The attendance policy of the school will be followed for this course.3. Any student who receives failing grades during this course is urged to discuss this with the teacher immediately. V.BJ Make-up Test Policy:Tests and quizzes will be scheduled in advance. Students are expected to take all quizzes and tests at the date/time specified. IF students miss a quiz or test, they are expected to contact the instructor and schedule a time for the quiz or test to be reopened. ALL quizzes and tests must be made up within TWO weeks of the original date.Assignments have a due date. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR ANY CREDIT. The instructor will review late work, make comments/suggestions, but the grade will be a 0. VI.Texts and Other Virtual Important Information:SCHOOLOGY:This is the online learning platform that we will use this year. All work is accessible and will be submitted via Schoology. We will use Schoology for “class time” videos, etc. American Pageant (David M. Kennedy, Lisabeth Cohen, and Thomas Bailey; 15th edition) Online access: *Unit reading assignments will be posted in advance. Students are required to keep up with the reading and notetaking based on the due dates provided. While we are virtual, students may type their notes. ANY copied, shared or plagiarized notes (from the internet) will be given a zero.United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination.
