Sectionalism and the Road to War, the Civil War, and Reconstruction

We will look at the institution of slavery in the Southern United States and war with Mexico which enlarges the nation and renews controversy over the extension of slavery. We will investigate the course of the Civil War and the events which lead to defeat for the Confederacy. We will explore the ways the south was “reconstructed.”
