Peer Review of Persuasive Essay Each writer’s essay should be peer reviewed by at least one classmate. As you read the draft, mark any area that is unclear or awkward. Insert comments to ask the writer questions that will help her/him make her/his thoughts clear. Write comments on the draft about what is working well in the draft and what is not working well. Be specific. Whose draft are you reviewing? What topic does the author take a stance on in this paper? Describe the introduction of the essay. How does the author introduce the topic and their stance? Site specific example(s) of this from the introduction. In what ways could the introduction be improved? Explain.What is the thesis statement or claim being made in this paper? In what ways is the thesis clear/unclear? In what ways is the thesis original/unoriginal? Explain. How could the thesis be improved? Is the essay well-organized? Does it reflect the organization of the thesis statement? Can you easily follow its path of development? Are all parts of the essay clearly related to each other? Suggest ways the writer could improve their organization. What support and evidence from researched sources is provided to support the claim made in the thesis? In what ways does the essay critically engage the evidence? How well integrated is the evidence integrated into the author’s writing? How could it be improved?Does the author acknowledge counter-arguments that can be made on this topic? What are those counter arguments? How does the author argument against them? Identify specific examples of where this is done well. In what areas could this be improved?Identify at least 2 specific examples where the author utilizes pathos, logos, or ethos throughout the essay. In what ways are these effective appeals to the audience? Explain. In what ways could these examples or other areas could be improved with the use of one or more of these appeals? Explain where and how.Identify at least 2 specific examples where the author’s writing is clear, fluid, and error-free. What effect(s) do these sections have on you as a reader? Explain.How effective is the conclusion? Does the author summarize certain aspects of the essay in it? If so, site specific example(s). Does the author synthesize information for the reader? If so, site specific example(s). If not, what revision ideas can you offer?What format is the author using? (APA, MLA, Chicago…) Describe the formatting of the essay – page layout, page headers, and works cited. Are in-text citations and the source list complete? Do they meet the style guidelines (APA, MLA, etc.)? If not, how could they be improved? Are the sources used credible and reliable academic sources? If so, how do you know? If not, which sources lack credibility? What are specific revisions the writer should consider? Why?
