Resources for Incoming International Students and Scholars

This resource sheet has been compiled as a starting list of searchable websites and online listings of apartments for rent, sublets, roommates and temporary housing opportunities. It is not exhaustive. Please use these listings at your own risk. While it may be possible to sign a lease from outside of Pittsburgh, it is usually best to visit and inspect the apartment, before signing any contract.

The University of Pittsburgh is located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Students commonly live in the neighborhoods of Oakland, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Southside, Bloomfield and Friendship.

GLOSSARY OF HOUSING TERMS

Apartment—a room or suite of rooms designed as a residence and generally located in a building occupied by more than one household. Commonly called a “flat” In British English.

Lease—a contract granting use or occupation of property during a specified period in exchange for a specified rent.

Sublet—an apartment rented by a tenant to another party.
