Short guide to connecting to the Remote Desktop at University of Arkansas - Windows 10 AppAs of August 2018IMPORTANT WINDOWS 10 PATCHIf you are using Windows 10 without the latest patches, you may experience connection errors. Please have your IT staff (for labs) and students (on laptops) download the latest patch before connecting the first time. Install the Remote Desktop from the Microsoft StoreOpen the Microsoft Store. Go to Start > Microsoft Store.Search for Remote Desktop.Click Install.Before you connect for the first time, add the Walton Remote Desktop GatewayBefore you can connect, you need to connect to the University of Arkansas network: Open Remote Desktop. Go to Start > Remote Desktop.Click + Add at the top, and choose Desktop. In the PC Name box, type: rds.walton.uark.edu Next to User Account click the +. In the Username box, type GACL\<username> using your assigned username, and in the password box, enter your password. Click Save.Now choose your username from the User account list.Click Show more.Scroll down, and next to Gateway click the +. In the Server name box enter: ent-sysgw.waltoncollege.uark.eduFrom the User account list, select your GACL\<username> account from step 5.Click Save.Click Save again. Your new remote desktop will appear in the list.Next, log into the Remote Desktop Open Remote Desktop. Go to Start > Remote Desktop.Click on your rds.walton.uark.edu desktop to login.If you see a message asking if you trust the connection, click Connect to continue.When you’re ready to log off, go to Start on the remote computer, and click Log Off.Finally, you can access the SQL Server databases using Excel. For example, to access Dillard’s data:Open Excel and create a new sheet.Go to Data > Get & Transform > New Query > From Database > From SQL Server Database Enter the following and click OK.Server: essql1.walton.uark.eduDatabases: UA_DILLARDS_2016To save your workAs you perform analyses in the Remote Desktop, you have access to a shared network folder, called the “S Drive”:Navigate to My Computer > S: > <username> folder.
