Course Name: Spanish I Teacher: Señora (Mrs.) Hoffman-Fields

Course Description and Objectives: Spanish I consists of the study of the basic rules and vocabulary necessary to form a basis for the listening comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking of Spanish. The course includes work on comprehension, pronunciation skills, memorization of basic vocabulary words, and the ability to use these words in the construction of sentences and short paragraphs. In order to construct sentences and paragraphs, students must also learn certain grammar rules, verbs and conjugations of regular and irregular verbs. This course also includes a study of Spanish-speaking countries, culture, and customs. Letter grades are determined by tests, quizzes, homework, listening activities, class participation, class notebooks, and projects.

Grading Scale: The scale in the student handbook, as adopted by the Logan-Hocking Board of Education, will be used to determine letter grades.

Classroom Rules/Policies:      

• Students are expected to be on time and prepared for class. Students not in the classroom by the bell will be marked tardy. Students will receive detentions from the office for tardies.

• Food and drinks are not permitted.

• Students are expected to complete assignments on time. Late work is not accepted. Students may be given additional time to complete in-class assignments on an individual basis. Students are expected to take the responsibility to make up any missing work from absences.

• The use of smart phones /mobile devices is allowed for teacher-authorized, educational activities only. All electronic devices (including phones) need to be kept in bookbags (or out of sight) unless we are using them for an activity in class.

Integration of Technology: The Spanish I textbook, including all audio and video ancillaries, is available online. Current lesson plans, copies of worksheets, class presentations, copies of notes, and online practice games are available online on my class website. Students will be provided a reference page with websites and usernames/passwords to all sites used on a regular basis. Students will be completing a number of computer-based activities and assessments in this class.
