Want to have more energy? Improve your mood? And get a healthy heart at the same time? MyPyramid has guidelines to help you do just that. Being active is almost like a miracle medicine, it does so many good things for you. It also uses up calories from foods you eat so it helps manage weight. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, you can do it! Aim for 10 minutes several times a day.

- Kids need 60 minutes of active play each day.

- Adults need 30 minutes of activity to keep heart, lungs and bones strong.

- Add more activity to manage your weight.

Kids Can Cook!

Harvest Apple Smiles

Fall is a great time to try many different kinds of apples.

They’re fresh, on sale often, and taste great!

Apples

Non-fat plain yogurt

Orange juice concentrate

1. Use a plastic knife to cut apple in half or have an adult help.

2. Take out seeds. Cut into slices that look like smiles.

3. Mix a little orange juice concentrate into yogurt until you like the taste of it. Dip apples into yogurt mixture and smile!

Make an “I Love to Walk!” activity log for everyone in your family. List the days of the week down the left side of the paper. Write the number “10” six times next to each day of the week. Put on the refrigerator so it will easy to circle one “10” each time you walk for ten minutes. See who in your family can walk the most each week.
