Use Heading 1, H1 only if your thesis or dissertation is divided into major sections. If the document is not divided into major sections, then do not use Heading 1, h1. Instead use heading 2, h2 for chapters. Please note that the format style of Heading 1, h1 and Heading 2, h2, is different. It is important that the format style of major headings within your document remains consistent so do not use a combination of H1, h1 and H2, h2 for chapter headings as they are different.
