To activate your Internet service:

1. Visit your cable Internet service provider's website and follow the onscreen instructions to activate your Internet service. Note: You can find your cable Internet service provider's contact information on your monthly Internet service billing statement.

2. If you are unable to activate your Internet service using the instructions on your cable Internet service provider's website, call your cable Internet provider and do the following: 1. When asked, provide your account information and provide your cable modem or modem router's model number, serial number, and MAC address. The serial number and MAC address are on the label on your cable modem or modem router, which is on the bottom of your cable modem or modem router. 2. Wait for your cable Internet service provider to confirm that your cable modem or modem router is active. 3. You cannot get Internet access on any device. You are unable to go online. An Internet connection cannot be established on your router/gateway. Your router's Internet LED light is amber.

Note: You must follow a sequence to turn all your networking devices OFF and ON to ensure they are properly reset. Follow the instructions below depending on the setup of your home network.

Scenario 1: You are using a standalone Cable/DSL modem with a router.

1. Turn off or shut down all your networking devices (Cable/DSL modem, Wired/Wireless router, and Wired & Wireless devices). Note: Some modems are equipped with a backup battery. If your modem has one, please remove the backup battery to completely turn off your modem. 2. Turn on the Cable/DSL modem first and let it boot up. This will take a couple of minutes while the modem is syncing with your ISP to establish a connection. In most cases all the LED lights will remain stable, however, always refer to the user manual of the modem to verify the status of the LED lights.

3. Once the Cable/DSL modem completes the connection to your ISP, turn on the Wired/Wireless router. The router will now establish a connection with the Cable/DSL modem. This process will take a few minute as well. In most cases, the Internet LED light on the router will turn solid green, however, please refer to the user manual of the router to verify the status of the LED lights.

1. Turn off or shut down all your networking devices (DSL/Cable Gateway, and Wired &Wireless devices).

2. Turn on the DSL/Cable gateway first and let it boot up. This might take a couple of minutes while the DSL/Cable gateway is syncing with your ISP to establish a connection. In most cases, all the LED lights will remain stable, however, always refer to the user manual of the DSL/Cable gateway to verify the status of the LED lights.

3. Once the DSL/Cable gateway completes the connection to your ISP, turn on the wired & wireless devices.

The primary differences between the two frequencies are the range (coverage) and bandwidth (speed) that the bands provide. The 2.4 GHz band provides coverage at a longer range but transmits data at slower speeds. The 5 GHz band provides less coverage but transmits data at faster speeds.
