Science Special - Summer Term (1)

Week 1 – w/c 20th April 2020

This half term our science focus is going to be….

Growing and Lifecycles

Week 1 – Living and non-living things

Key Question:

How do we know if something is a living thing or not?

Key Knowledge:

This is recapping our learning Y1 and Y2, but is also useful for YR:

1. Living things can move on their own.

2. Living things change and grow.

3. Living things can make new living things (reproduce)

4. Living things take in what they need (i.e. air, food, and in lots of different ways).

5. Living things push out what they don’t need (i.e. make waste).

6. All living things die one day.

Have some fun with the activity for your year group on the next page!

Growing things hunt!

If you can, go outside safely, or you can use objects around your home, or even pictures from a book or on the computer. Make a set of things that can change and grow and are living. Can the children explain how they know what to include?

Are you growing something at home? Send me a picture!

…….did you use the words waste and reproduce?

Test your grown ups to see if they can remember the six ways too!
