Enter a paragraph headingDo not title your chapters or paragraphs “Policy” as this is redundant. It is understood that ARs contain policy. Use focused headings such as “Approval authorities.” When citing a form, enter the title of the form the first time it is referenced. For example, DA Form 2028 (Recommended Changes to Publications and Blank Forms). When there is only one main idea in a paragraph (and you don’t have a second paragraph for the 3–1a and 3–1b construct), the single paragraph may introduce subparagraphs, such as used here. For example, this paragraph may explain policy on who has approval authority and end with, “The following individuals may delegate their approval authority:”a. AASA.b. DCS, G–1.3–2. Enter additional paragraph headingThis paragraph shows a table. Tables must be referenced in the text before they appear in your document. For example, “See table 3–1 for an example of how to construct a table.” Information on the use of tables is contained in DA Pam 25–40, paragraph 3–29. Use caution when placing a table in a AR; tables may only appear in an AR when they are needed to display policy information.Table 3–1Elements of table design Column 1Column 2Column 3Column 4Column 5Column 6DataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataDataChapter 4Paragraphs with several levels of subparagraphs4–1. If there is a paragraph 4–1a, there must be at least at paragraph 4–1b.(1) If there is a paragraph 4–1a(1), there must at least be a paragraph 4–1a(2).(2) This is paragraph 4–1a(2).(a) If there is a paragraph 4–1a(2)(a), there must at least be a paragraph 4–1a(2)(b).(b) This is paragraph 4–1a(2)(b). This is considered the third sublevel in a chapter. There is not a fourth sublevel for ARs. If you require more than three levels of paragraphs, consider revising your text or break it into sections within the chapter (remember, if you have a Section I, there must also be at least at Section II).b. DA Pam 25–40 lists restrictions for using figures in an AR. Figures should only be used when it is the best way to depict policy-related information.
