Patients meeting the American-European Consensus Conference definition for ARDS were considered for the study. If 12-36 hours after ARDS onset, PaO2/FiO2 ratio remained ≤200 mmHg under standardized ventilator settings (FIO2≥0.5, PEEP≥10 cmH2O), patients were randomized to OLA or ARDSnet protocol. ................
